Maybe a little of the point...

Hi everyone,

Now as you will know when i tell you, I am English.

And the vast majority of you on here are American/Canadian (sorry to generaize if that annoys you lot) But i do hve a friend that lives in Texas and I was speaking to him about the foot n' mouth thing a while back...

Now this i'm sure will not apply to all of you (or maybe if american broadcasting is nationalistic it may) but my friend was saying that he did not realise that England was compleatly shut down to any kind of in-port (especially not livestock for obvious reasons) and that the country was burning millions of cows and sheep in the fields... toatal mayhem...

He at first thourght that i was joking - but as i am sure that you will all know i am not... (or maybe you dont)

Is american broadcasting that poor at bringing you worldwide news? - Or is it that my friend is a lazy fucker and couldnt be arsed to watch the news?

I've heard stories of cattle being destroyed overseas, so your friend may not just be totally up to speed.

I follow BSE and Foot and Mouth regularly, but then again, that's my job.  The television newsmedia here is controlled by an oligopoly which is in bed with the two major political parties here.  Most cable companies don't carry BBC world or CNN world coverage, and much of the worldly perspective is censored here.  Fortunately we have almost unrestrained access to the internet and most print media.  But the general consumer here will get their news from TV.  Only us ivory tower folk will subscribe to things publications like The Economist.
