Title: Hacker Network
Post by: Dark Shade on September 08, 2002, 10:21:10 AM
Alright. I've joined the Hacker Network...

I see alot of people with little tiny logos at the bottom of their posts...

How exactly do you obtain one of those? I'd like to snag one myself.

I was thinking of copying another members logo who didn't post...but that's not right...

Heheheh.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I assume you're talking  about sig images, much like the one I have below on here.

First, you need to grab a graphics program like MSPaint (heh) or PSP or Photoshop and make one. (or convince someone to make one for you)
Then you have to find a place to host the file. I recommend Netfirms. Then you go into your profile, and in the signature area you type
[I M G]http://www.yourhost.com/filename.extension[/ I M G]. (without the giant spaces twixt the letters in IMG, natch)

Would you be willing to do that Lacerda?

Yeah, sure...I've got an hour to kill. Whaddya want?
Title: Hacker Network

Um...do I just pick an image, and then tell you to put my name on it?

Putting my name on it would be aight, but I'm trying to think of an image...

Some kind of Lich, dark, thingy...

I can't quite tell ya what image...but something along those lines.

Hell, Satan-ish, Dark, etc.

And then stuff my name in the bottom corner, if you'd be so kind.

Maybe try putting for a quote if you could spare it:

"Darkness is my light."

Thanks again.

Generally speaking, one usually puts the quotes in separate of the sig image. Check your HN PM box.

Thank you. You wouldn't want to do that same deal again, with "Dark Shade" as my name, would ya?

It's alright if you don't. I'm sure the guys won't mind if I use it here.

Thanks again Lacerda.

Ehhh...I'd have to do it again from scratch...

First one's free, next time it's $800.

Oh well, then don't bother. Thanks again though. I really appreciate it.

Maybe I'm just being stupid here, but wouldn't it make much more sense to be using that sig on HN?
Title: Hacker Network
Post by: Dark Shade on September 08, 2002, 11:03:39 AM
That's kinda why I wanted another for here, but that's alright. HN it is...

Lacerda made the sig you're using on HN?  Nice!  I like it!  Where'd you get that source image, Lacerda?

Google search for "lich".

Weird Tingly Feeling.  A couple of months ago, when I was making my L337 custom DM screens, I did a GIS for exactly that, and I came up with very few decent results, and certainly not that one.

Dammit.

I did, however, come up with lots and lots of images of Roy Lichtenstein's work.  Those are pretty cool, IMO.

You know what I wouldn't mind gentlemen, is if you made me a sig for the Geekery.

I'd appreciate that, since I have no artistic talents on or off my computer.

Ask, and you shall receive.  I went for the freaky DogStarMan syle of flicker animation in this one, though I'm sure Lacerda's effort will probably make mine look pretty amateurish...

Thank you very much Demo. I appreciate your efforts, the artwork kicks ass.

I wish I had artistic talent....

Well, PICTURES anyways.

Again, thank you very much.

Just in case you're interested, here is what it looks like before I did all the ripple type filter effects on it.  It really didn't take me very long.  It took longer to animate it than it did to assemble all the elements...

The background is from a John Howe painting called "In Mordor".  There's a pretty good scan of it here (http://www.jrrtolkien.org.uk/Images%203/mordor.jpg), if you want to see the entire thing...

That's wicked Demo, thanks again for the sig.

No problem.  I learned how to use Photoshop by making sig images for myself and others over on HN (http://www.hackernetwork.com), and I make a point to try something different every time I make a new one, so I can keep learning new stuff.  Photoshop is a pretty cool program, but there is no end to stuff you can learn about it.  I find new things every time I open it up, even if it's just to make something simple...

Could you make me a nice signature image, Demo? I'd appreciate it. :D

I tried to mess around with PShop but it was too hard to learn. Everything seemed profoundly unintuitive...

Ah, well, that's the way it goes with the really powerful programs. I use Metroworks Codewarrior to program Java and that turned me off to the whole language by its obtusity at first.

Please Demo? Pretty please?

Since Demo and I are such good friends I think it only fair that he make me a sig first    Anyways I got photoshop recently and am strugling with the writing part of the sig. Cropping a pic is easy enough but I can only get standard writing ( Veranda and stuff ) and this looks outta place on the pic. any suggestions on how to change this?

Thanks

First off, I'd suggest not hosting your image with Tripod, Angelfire or Geocities.
