I try not to get caught up in all the usual flaming that occurs during political seasons, I mean everyone has flaws, right? However this grabbed my attention.

"During the 2008 presidential race, John McCain's online team has often used web video to get the candidate's major campaign themes out onto the internet.
But an offhand verbal riposte by one of the members of that team has turned into a viral video that's providing just the kind of attention they don't want. It's reviving the idea that the Republican presidential candidate is clueless when it comes to technology."

I know that computer illiteracy this isn't uncommon among the older generations, although it is worrisome in a US president.
-
Why?
I don't want my president wasting time on the webernet and he sure as hell better not be usening emale as a means of communication!

Dude, you really hate Obama.

Why?
Not to be short, but I can't find anything about the President's duties that remotely require him to have technological literacy. Perhaps you can explain why you feel this way.
-
He should at least understand what a large segment of his constituency does with a majority of their time. Either at work or at play.
-
If anything I think McCain should stay away from more technology. Things like microphones and tv cameras.
-
I wouldn't vote for Obama with your vote.
I wouldn't vote for Obama with a ten foot voting lever.
I don't hate him; I just don't know him, and what I have learned, I do not like.
clearly you are racist yes that must be it.

To echo The_FOO : It just seems to me that the computer is such a fundamental tool in America's society, that a president should have a pretty good grasp of at least the basics.
I may be alone here, but I feel that computer illiteracy is a sign that McCain just doesn't have a grasp today's culture and I don't believe that he would properly represent me and my generation.
That is of course, if they aliens don't come down and enslave us all next year.

So to make a big deal that a 70 year old dude doesnt have a myspace page and isnt on AIM all the time is sorta ridiculous.
John McCain's Myspace:

and hes a virgo. :-)
I like him more already.

I don't know if I want a 70 year old man who "understands" the younger generations. Accepting and open to it, yes I want that. But I don't think Kirk needs to know exactly how the Enterprise-E works to be able to captain it in battle.

see MKKKain doesn't have a facebook profile clearly hes the inferior candidate oh barack youre soooooo dreamy

I vote for candidates based which one I'd most like to have a beer with and if we got drunk enough well who knows i mean I wouldn't chew my own arm off to get away from obamanana

sociald beat me to it. His ability to use the internet and all of it's social outlets, and his ability to be aware of it and the fact that it is used by a the majority of citizens, seem to stand as two separate items in my mind.

I don't think he should learn to use a computer. Country would sink even further once he discovered the free porn.
-
Well, so far we've only heard what others speculate that he may or may not know. For all I know, Demo could be John McCain. Nothing's told me yet whether or not he actually understands/uses/is aware of IT technology.
Hey! :x

It's me. I'm da nominee in da OP.
-
Didn't one of your presidential candidates invent the internet ?
If he joins McCain the even it out.
-
McCain\Gore?
my head asplode
-
Should he know how to use one? Probably, I suppose. Is it detrimental to a presidency? Probably not. There are lots of other, more valid reasons not to vote for McCain. I'm sure a president has loads of technology advisors equipped to handle any technology-driven requirements of the job. However I do think the poster who brought up that he cannot relate to our generation made a good point. But again, so many other reasons not to vote for the man, not sure this one rates that high.

Reasons like.... HE'S NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN!

If McCain doesn't learn to use a computer, how is he going to find Homoerotic A-Team Fan Fiction?
-
He's a damn foreigner trying to steal the election. Who cares where he gets his homoerotic A-Team fan fiction?
-
He was most certainly "natural born". He surely wasn't hatched.
How do you know he wasn't a C section?

I'm gonna have to challenge you on this one. McCain was born on a Naval Station in Panama, and Military bases are considered to be U.S. sovereign land.

You can't challenge snopes.

i don't generally post in these types of threads, but my brother was telling me about this a couple weeks ago and i found it fairly interesting.
according to http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/11/us/politics/11mccain.html?_r=1&oref=slogin :
The law conferred citizenship on children of American parents born in the Canal Zone after 1904, and it made John McCain a citizen just before his first birthday. But the law came too late, Professor Chin argued, to make Mr. McCain a natural-born citizen.
-
It's preposterous that a technicality like this can make a difference in an advanced democracy.
All I have to say is simply, I agree with this statement by Professor Chin whole heartedly.
-

While I disagree with the idea that he is not a "natural born citizen" since his parents were in the military and therefore, he SHOULD be considered a natural born citizen no matter what military base he was born on... I don't think it's preposterous at all. If we change the constitution to suit McCain, we are on a slippery slope. You never know, you might wake up one day and find Arnold Schwarzennager (sp?) president of the U.S. and that scares the shit out of me. Even moreso than having another republican in office who supports the war.
-
Would you prefer a Democrat that would leave Iraq in defeat for political gain?

I support the war in Iraq. It's one of the main reasons I'm talking to my air force recruiter (Besides free college, woot).
-

I'm not sure what you mean by "defeat" since by definition of the Iraq war, we really aren't there to "win" or "lose" because what exactly are we gaining over there if we "win"? But yes, I'd definitely rather have a democrat in office. I don't expect someone to pull out willy-nilly. But it's time to start taking the steps to get us out of there. I'm tired of spending my money on a needless, senseless war.
-
Would you prefer a Democrat that would leave Iraq in defeat for political gain?
At this point I would prefer just about ANYone that would put an end to the nonsense in Iraq regardless of their political ideology.
The point where any humanitarian sub-motive argument might fly is long past and when you factor in all the lies coupled with the obvious good-old-boy profiteering schemes that dominate the whole affair, I think this campaign is one of the biggest hoaxes ever.
-

Needless, senseless war is one of the best ways to keep a population under the thumb of the government. Fear is so powerful.

He finally got rid of that fucking growth on the right side of his face.

Enrique Iglesias?

Very true. I never expect it to be willy-nilly either. That way lies having to do laundry and possibly having to wash your hair.

Ok... why emphasize the "change" part? I thought that was funny because the box is lacking anything of real substance. Why, exactly, did you find it witty?
-
If I had a cereal box advertising that it was full of change, there had damn well be an avalanche of quarters falling into my bowl.

Because he's black.
