Your second sentence sort of falls off a cliff there.

Nonetheless: One of the Futurama movies.

I just watched The Namesake - against my wishes - but it was pretty great. I'm usually not one for realistic fiction, especially not of the culture-centric-generation-gap variety, but I really enjoyed it. Ah, Indian Jeff Goldblum.

I ended up on a movie bender last night. I watched 'Did You Hear About the Morgans?' and 'Almost Famous' and it was quite a contrast. The first was poor the second fantastic :). Hugh Grant was funny and cute when he was young but he really has lost some of his charm. Almost Famous was great, the lead actor is the same as in 'Wristcutters: A Love Story' one of my favourite movies so that had me :).

I saw "Inception". This movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, shoots for high philosophy, but misses the mark entirely. In fact, the only philosophical question I was pondering the entire time while watching this was "How does this guy still have a career?"

On the Xolik Blows-a-meter *pppphhhhht* Egg Salad!

Haven't seen it, and for this reason. Although, could you imagine how much worse it could have been if it were Keaneu Reeves who had DiCarprio's role? Reeves doesn't even have a personality with which to act, and the only reason he was decent in the Matrix was because the character had no personality either.

The last movie I saw was "Good," with Jason Isaacs and Viggo Mortenson. It was pretty good, I have to say. I actually teared up a little at the end. (Not the most historically accurate in terms of pre-WWII events, but the main focus of it revolves around the psychological/emotional complexities of living in that time in Germany).

They should probably rename it.

This is horribly cliche, but don't knock it til you try it.

Because it is.

See, the thing is, I hear what I read. Maybe lots of people do. Or maybe only really stupid people do. I don't know. In any case, when I read

The last movie I saw was "Good," with Jason Isaacs and Viggo Mortenson. It was pretty good

what I heard was

The last movie I saw was good, with Jason Isaacs and Viggo Mortenson. It was pretty good.

so I'm all like "Well, which one was it? Good, or pretty good?"

And then I though, they should have just called it "Pretty Good". Then you can just say

The last movie I saw was "Pretty Good," with Jason Isaacs and Viggo Mortenson.

and kill 2 birds with one cliche.

You DID finally realize it was in quotes because that was the name of the movie...right? Why else would it be in quotes?

And, when you said to rename it, I thought you were thinking more along the lines of renaming it "bad," or something along those lines.

 Awesome movie.

I love that one.  I've seen it probably a dozen times, never managed to get sick of it.  A brilliant performance by a very young Natalie Portman, and a downright chilling over-the-top villain brought to you by Gary Oldman.

I watched Quills last night. Great flick, plus nude Geoffrey Rush.

Also a great flick.  I'm actually going to have to give that one another watch.  I want to read the book (http://www.amazon.com/Quills-Doug-Wright/dp/0822215314) first though.

That's probably one of my favourite movies of all time.
I had never even heard of it before yesterday, but I'm so glad I watched it. I then immediately purchased it on eBay, of course.

I don't know how many women out there besides me enjoy naked Geoffrey Rush, but I certainly enjoy it enough for at least twelve thousand women.

I'm suprised Xolik didn't like Inception because that movie was pretty gay. I guess the lesson here is that not all gays like each other.

I actually liked inception because it was an out of the box concept. It reminded me of the first time I saw the matrix. It's good to see a bit more creativity in hollywood. Yes, some aspects of the film are fails. But some credit has to be given for originality (altough there's a lot of holes in the story).

I can't say anything about Inception since I haven't seen it yet. But, while the Matrix is kinda original (by combining ideas from various sources of influence), I wouldn't call it ~completely "out of the box"~, either  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Matrix_%28franchise%29#Influences_and_interpretations).

Unless of course you're referring to the cinematography, in which case, I rescind the above comment, since it has nothing to do with that.

SPOILER: he spent the whole time trying to find his "real" kids when in the end he got dream kids and was just as happy.

I don't know if the writers intended this to be the message, or if the majority of the audience took this away from the movie but I was really happy when the top didn't stop spinning.
It's not that the top didn't stop spinning. The whole point is that the scene was cut short so you can only guess if it was going to stop or not. (which is why a lot of people hate the ending)
Title: Re: What was the last movie you watched?
Post by: Novice on August 11, 2010, 11:17:09 PM
Yes but if the top never stops spinning the scene will always be cut short.

The top is how he is able to determine if he is dreaming or not. The top always has this power. To say that all of the sudden we can't trust the top is negating the entire story.
Title: Re: What was the last movie you watched?
Post by: TheJudge on August 12, 2010, 01:22:52 PM
No one said we can't trust it. I said the movie ends without us knowing if the top falls or not, and this is by design. Fruitycandy says it is established that the top continues spinning, thus they had to cut the scene short otherwise the movie would never end. We would be staring at the top forever. Personally, I think a sudden earthquake at the end would have been a good way to end it. That way the top falls, but you don't know if the quake is real or if he just fell asleep in a bumper car ride. OMFGLOL!111

It has been some time when it comes to movies, I have not been watching any movies few months ago. The last time I went for a movie was months ago, and from what I remembered, the last movie I watched was Inception. Inception is indeed a really great movie as it has a very interesting story line that no other movie has tried attempting on. although it might be confusing at times, but still I like it.

Last night I saw Piranha 3D. Admittedly, I haven't seen the original Piranha, but I have a hard time believing this one was anything but loosely based on it...because Piranha 3D is a huge throwback to Jaws. The original Piranha film came out only three years after Jaws; if it had been this parallel in plot I imagine there would have been more to-do about it.

That said, I loved it. It's definitely a "leave your brain at the door" film.

Well, the last movie I watched was “Inception” and I must say that everything went over my head though I’ve read that it one of the greatest hits in terms of the special effects and stuff I do agree that it had great special effects; it’s just that I am not much of a techie person I prefer to watch more simple movies (my son is the techie) with the same old simple story – no complicated themes for me

We watched "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" last night with the kids.  Not bad, I'd say it was a blatant rip off of Stupid Sexy Flanders except that it is based on a book.  Its like "Clash of the Titans" for tweens.  Not corny though, it was well done.  7.8/10

Well seeing as I had problems with Clash of the Titans, (mainly, the ENTIRE myth/storyline was wrong), I probably won't be seeing Percy Jackson either.

Unless my friends turn it into a drinking game, then of course, I'd have to watch for sheer comedic purposes.

Or they make a parody out of it: Stupid Sexy Flanders vs. Percy Jackson.

This was exactly why I didn't see the movie. My friends thought I was dumb. I told them "How can you watch this??? This is wrong, and so is this, and this, and this..."

Their response: "..."

Damn those Mythology classes I took senior year. Pop culture "classics" like Clash of the Titans are forever ruined for me.

Easy A, although in Canada it was renamed to "Easy, Eh?"

I lol'd.

Most recent film I've watched was The Black Swan. I had heard nothing about it what so ever. I like it when that happens, your view of the movie is not set askew by the mountains of douche bags who've told you what to expect.

Inception I notice is a hot topic in this thread. I really did not care for it. I found it to be not particularly complex, and completely readable. The first 3/4ths of the film felt like a lecture on how inception works. Then the rest was like "Well! None of what we've been explaining works any more because we're in a rush, so we'll go with whatever."
Also, most of the actors in that film I totally adore, but found them all to be poorly directed and shallow characterisations of what they had the potential to be.

One last point, how important was the need for creating this complex level and needing some supreme architect... Then as soon as we entered he was like "But you built a back door right!?" and she's like "Yeah!" Then they use it.

Honestly I give it a 6/10

This past weekend I had a lil Star Wars marathon ^_^ I picked up the blu-ray release so I figured, what the hell. Watched 1-6 out of curiosity to see what George decided to change....

Also watched Super. Has anyone else heard of or watched that movie?

Oh man. Its a superhero movie with Rainn Wilson. Most depressing movie ever -__-   Kamp Klown Massacre sounds like it could either be awesomely campy.... or just horrible hah

Also, saw Lion King 3D last night- f*ck yea! ^_^

Super is awesome since it asks "What kind of nutjob would try being a superhero and what would happen if they did?" and then shows you the visceral result of it. VISCERAL

Also: I've never really been that attracted to Ellen Page before and now I am.

Edit: Oh yeah, the last movie I watched was Attack the Block, a movie about chavs dealing with an alien invasion. It was great!

Visceral it certainly was, and the aspect I disliked the most. The friends I had watched it with and I just sat there in awe, depressed and in silence for about 20 minutes after it was over haha None of us were expecting that movie to be so depressing... I did however love the straight-up gore and violence.

I wish I could say the same about Rainn Wilson :P  While I thought the [spoilers] was hot, nothing in this world could make me attracted to him.

I still haven't seen that movie to the end. Kind of didn't see a point.
