Homework Help / science fair project
« on: September 26, 2014, 07:21:18 PM »
Hello,

My wonderful six year old son is entered into this years science project for first grade.  It is his first one and he has come up with an amazing idea. He wants to make a recycling bin like and arcade machine (kind of).  I was showing him the garbage patch in the ocean and told him that recycling can help the environment and help reduce our impact.  So he came up with the idea of a recycling bin that lights up and makes sounds and gives you a ticket every time you recycle something(the tickets could be turned in later for a prize).  He wants to make it fun and put it in his school so that the kids there will be more inclined to recycle.  Problem is...even though i love science...i am not exactly electronically literate.  I think the idea is great..and is far greater than my mentos bottle rocket idea.  I would hate to tell him that we can't do it just because i don't exactly understand how.  I know some of the parts we need, but could definitely use some help as to how to go about it.

our list of parts we know we need:
ticket dispenser
l.e.d's
some kind of programmable sound board and speaker??

Sorry it's a little vague...this isn't really my area of expertise.
all advice is appreciated..thank you so much.
