Anarchy / APIC Legal Threats
« on: May 09, 2003, 07:36:45 AM »
I've seen a few other sites that have had simliar problems and it seemed friendly on both sides even though what the legal guy was asking would take a massive chunk out of the sites

I wouldn't have though that threats would be made to you after you've complied with their requests but if the e:mails contain information of both their co-operation and specifies stuff that you've done then its probably legit. If your still unsure contact them and ask and also enquire with the site thats lodged the complaint.

Yea, your right...

It wasn't too bad anyway. An official warning and it clearly stated that if I do it again I'll get kicked out of school for good :)

O.K so tommorow I'm gonna get told of for two things,

1) *hacking* the school network (taking of a floppy disk left by a teacher) and e:mailing someones report to people breeching the data protection act (sending some prats report to a couple of mates who had a quick chuckle and then deleted it).

2) *hacking* a admins account (finding a loophole allowing me to get into c:\) and redering a computer useless to anybody but myself (changing the access rights outta curiosity and accidently buggering up a computer).

So first I get told off by my IT teach a few weeks ago and now my parents have been rung and I have to get told of by my head of year (and probably the techniction who I pissed) and then my parents have to come into school and I have to get told off again.

These two small things (that took about two secs to do and were done outta boredom) have turned into something pretty big - I don't normally get into much trouble a school.

depending on how much components you have in there, you may want to upgrade the power supply. 300w is not much

I have a pretty standard set up (memory, graphics card, sound card, DVD Drive, CD-RW Drive) and wasn't really aware that lack of power was a problem (if anything I thought too much was coming through - due to the dead proccessors).

Now, when you returned the board, are you sure they sent a new one?

Mabye I explained it wrong :)

They sent the original board back saying that there was nothing wrong with it (they tested it with another system and said it ran fine for 24 hours with no hangs or crashes - I sent a note along with it saying that the problems began when the PC began to crash randomly).

Quote
Do you have proper fan/heatsink installed on the CPU?

The heat sink is an Asaka and hasn't really been too problematic. The first proccessor was one where I might of messed it up myself. It had a few chips in the die (CPU core) which I think was caused by resitting the fan after checking the serial number on the proccessor. For that proccessor I didn't place any thermal paste and it ran fine without overheating for 6 months or so (which might have caused some of the problems I'm experiencing now I guess...)

Quote
Did you just dump a bunch of new hardware in an old system? You could have problems if there isn't enough juice to power all the components

Case was new (I made a whole PC so I could keep my old one as a backup - which is coming in handy now  ). It says 300w inside the case if that helps...

Quote
I tend to think the MB is the problem, but it could be other stuff. If you have acess to another PC that can support those processors, try in in them first. That will at least confirm that the CPU is not the problem.

I don't have another system that I can test on. This (old) PC doesn't take the new memory (it doesn't fit), there is a limit on the HD size (8 gigish) meaning I can't test my new HD, The proccessor is a pentium 2 so I can't tranfer anything across. The only thing I can test is the graphics card (which I am trying to do at the moment). I would try and get someone else to test it but since it seems to be destroying everything in sight at the moment I don't think its a good idea :(

Quote
If it is somehow manually set to run the CPU at ridiculous speeds, that could fry it quick

Yea I'll look into that - I wouldn't mess with it but just to see whether the settings have been changed.

I still don't have my computer working (its been dead for months). I've sent it to several technitions (most of which work at a university and should know what they're doing...) and all have failed to sort it out. At the moment it seems to enjoy destroying every proccessor place inside it (4 proccessors in a row so far and most have only lasted for a few seconds).

Personally I think it could be the motherboard thats doing this - even though its been sent back to the seller once and returned with a clean bill of health (its probably been damaged since then with all the proccessor dying in it). The motherboard looks fine and most of the proccessors have not shown any sign of burning (except for the last). The proccessors place in the Abit Kx7-333R motherboard are XP 2100+ (although a 2000+ was place - which packed in in an instant).

I have e:mailed the supplier explaining the problem and hope they can suggest something and am still looking around online for suggestions for the source of the problem.

Htmlgoodies is quite a popular site for learning html. If your making a basic website then just used frontpage - its easy to use and have many features used in word and other MS products so doesn't take alot of getting used to. Webmonkey is another site for web designing info.

Political Opinions / They must think the rest of the world is pretty stupid
« on: December 06, 2002, 04:43:32 PM »
I think your sort of missing the point. I would guess that the article was a kind of propaganda and thus not intended to hit the outside world instead it was for people internally. Sure the idea is laughable but it's these kind of comments that cause already crazed fundamentalists to carry out further attacks

Society in general needs to lighten up

(I like the way the Simpsons takes the piss outta Rupert Murdock - I guess thats how its spelt - we did a bit about it in General Studies. Basically hes the bloke that owns Fox - along with a couple of papers like the sun and stuff. Matt Groening always adds a couple of jokes at RM's expense whenever possible)

« on: November 25, 2002, 04:52:00 PM »
Heh thanks,

In any case I have found a nifty little site with a couple of cool hacks for Kazaa - amoung them were a thing to cheat your p/l level, a speed booster thing and an ace program which allows you to paste "hashes" into Kazaa allowing you to download exact files which people know that work. It also included a program called "AVi Preview" which as the name suggests allows you to preview Dat .AVi files - probably like the DivFix.

Now all I need to do is to get my P.C working again and I'll be sorted

There are some file that might help...

The first

And the Second

Simply click on the links and download. You'll need try both as they only work with certain OS's. Once downloaded click on the files and it should produce a step by step guide on how to use Sub 7 - and tons of other such programs.

Both the files are courtsey of the Geekerys best programming coder Demo so all questions / praise to be adressed to him.

Good Luck

I take no responsabilty for any resulting problems that may occur on any persons computer after executing the above files.[/color][/i]
