Writer's Block / a poem
« on: January 18, 2009, 09:43:29 PM »
this poem is open to criticism and comments and other stuff... and I know it's kind of bad.
But, I expect you'll all love it ardently of course  :w:
about the colors...um...yeah. I had fun with them.....

I happened upon far away place
a place I'd never been before
the people there were indeed quite strange
and traveled in packs of four.

Yes, It was a very interesting place
and I couldn't believe what I was seeing
but I was lost and couldn't find my way
so I was stuck there for the time being.

Some people had orange skin,
and eyes that were empty and wide.
Others had multi-colored arms
that grew according to the tide.

Some people had green skin and tails
and were nearly ten feet tall
others had purple skin with scales
but were actually rather small

I saw a robot walking around
with a device that was rather neat,
and a hobo man who had feet instead of hands
and hands instead of feet.

I know my story is very strange
but honestly, it's true
so make sure not to get lost
or else this might happen to you.

Entertainment / modern day "horror" movies
« on: January 15, 2009, 10:05:17 PM »
I don't think there are any other recent threads with topics similar to this one.

There might be people in this forum who go to movie theatres to watch movies like "The Stranger" or "The Killer" or "The Shit-Eating-Scary guy", but personally I hate scary movies today. I mean, they all start with "The" and usually end with a singular or plural noun. It sounds like quite a perplexing notion. not. They don't all do that, but it's kind of a noticeable trend.
They aren't even scary or horrific anymore, just gory and pointless. They're like numbing our "fear" emotion. either that or feeding it. Like, desensitizing us so that we're all gore-movie eating zoommbbiies.
Some of them still may have plot lines, but if they do, the gore/ blood probably dominates more than the plot line does. I don't personally know since I don't go to see them, but that's just my guess. In the commercials, they all look the same to me.
Maybe this has to do with how all Americans seem to want is more and more things to fear. I mean, fear is all over the media! It's true. Fear is all over the news, and if we can't find anything to fear, then we make something to fear just so we can have something to feed off of. The media DOES over exaggerate fear sometimes.

Anyway, what ever happened to real, actual science fiction or horror, when the story was more important than showing off fancy graphics? I'm not saying graphics are bad, but in my eyes they aren't as important as the story....
I have a story! when I was in middle school, the only movies I was used to were either non-horror movies or old fashioned horror. Apparently, though, I was almost the only one. I mean, I was probably the only kid in my grade who wasn't allowed to see PG-13 movies.  :-P
In around 6th or 7th grade I think, I remember at one point I went to a friend's house and she happened to want to watch "I know what you did last summer". I was reluctant to watch it at first but she eventually talked me into it..... and so after about 45 minutes into the movie, after some guy got stabbed in the throat, I freaked out and made her turn it off because I was sensitive and couldn't watch any more. I was one of those people who could kind of feel it happening...and I also hated the concept of dying by any sort of throat wound for some reason. So my modern-day-scary-movie virginity was taken that night. Oh, and she also talked me into watching the rest of it because she was a blood-thirsty tyrant. That movie isn't even that bad compared to some of the stuff they are making in the present moment.

I guess my point is that modern day gore movies are stupid.
I'm also not saying that every new scary movie out there is terrible, but still.

edit: I edited it. yayyy I changed the color!
