O.K so tommorow I'm gonna get told of for two things,

1) *hacking* the school network (taking of a floppy disk left by a teacher) and e:mailing someones report to people breeching the data protection act (sending some prats report to a couple of mates who had a quick chuckle and then deleted it).

2) *hacking* a admins account (finding a loophole allowing me to get into c:\) and redering a computer useless to anybody but myself (changing the access rights outta curiosity and accidently buggering up a computer).

So first I get told off by my IT teach a few weeks ago and now my parents have been rung and I have to get told of by my head of year (and probably the techniction who I pissed) and then my parents have to come into school and I have to get told off again.

These two small things (that took about two secs to do and were done outta boredom) have turned into something pretty big - I don't normally get into much trouble a school.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Help!
« on: May 02, 2003, 01:57:30 PM »
I still don't have my computer working (its been dead for months). I've sent it to several technitions (most of which work at a university and should know what they're doing...) and all have failed to sort it out. At the moment it seems to enjoy destroying every proccessor place inside it (4 proccessors in a row so far and most have only lasted for a few seconds).

Personally I think it could be the motherboard thats doing this - even though its been sent back to the seller once and returned with a clean bill of health (its probably been damaged since then with all the proccessor dying in it). The motherboard looks fine and most of the proccessors have not shown any sign of burning (except for the last). The proccessors place in the Abit Kx7-333R motherboard are XP 2100+ (although a 2000+ was place - which packed in in an instant).

I have e:mailed the supplier explaining the problem and hope they can suggest something and am still looking around online for suggestions for the source of the problem.

Just wondering, those who can, whether you could check the IP(s) below and see what weaknesses / holes there are in the guys connection. Basically it's a mates who has broadband and seems to think that he doesn't need to protect himself with firewalls, we were dicussing it in ICT, and I was just wondering wether this was the case...

IP : - 80.0.15.92, 62.252.224.7

My computer has been switching off randomly recently. I leave it on occasionly overnight and when I return to it in the morning I find it has rebooted itself. I've been around twice when its re-booted and it has flashed up a blue error screen for a few seconds just before it begins. Its now gotten a whole lot worse. The machine and the monitor have started to disagree with on and another and when the computer boots up (the fans start spinning and the hard drive whirrs) the monitor stays dead with the flashing message that its not reciving any signal (also the keyboard doesn't work when booted up - the "num lock" light that flashes up when its got power doesn't light. This refusal to boot has only occured over the last two days. The first time I unplugged all the cables and hooked it up to my old monitor. Everything worked fine so I put it back as it originally was and it worked o.k. I left it on for a while and when I came back it had re-booted. I used it for a while and then a blue error screen flashed up and it went again. I managed to get it up and running by  reseting the CMOS on the mobo. A while later it went down again and this time it looks pretty dead. The main unit still powers up but the monitor stays dead. I've tried hooking it up to my old monitor and reseting the CMOS but to no avail. I cannot think of what else I can do to get it to work. Finally when I try to boot - sometimes - it up the P.C lets out a longish beep (lasting a few secs) every so often. I have no idea whats caused it. The P.C's fairly new and its not got too much data on it - the newest "suspect thing I've got is DivX pro. It came with some ad-ware. I know this on its own is harmless but I blocked it from accessing the net and used "Ad-Aware" and "spybot" to remove a few of the companats. I know its probably not that but its about the only thing I can think of thats been causing problems on my P.C. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this and how I can solve it?

Thanks in advance

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Is there any way...
« on: October 27, 2002, 04:52:19 PM »
Is there any way to make Kazaa play .avi files. I alway thought it only played .mpg - and similar files - but other people seem to imply otherwise. Are there decent alternatives that do both. Is there a way to make Kazaa play DiVX as well? Its alot easier to be able to preview files before you download them.

Also I've got a vid file that I can't get to work. It says its .mpeg formatt but it wont work in either Win media or Winamp (It plays as just audio) Are there any other programs that it might work on - I was thinking Quicktime or Real Player.

Thanks

Do download speeds increase the faster your moden speed or is it entirly dependant on the computer your downloading from?

I have just started having problems with Internet Explorer. In the last few days it began becoming really slow to pop up after clicking on the IE icon on the desktop. It took about 30 secs to load. Now its not doing anything when clicks on. Once a window is open the net speed is standard - 56K - and if you click on a link which opens another window it comes up fine - the problem is with the intial loading of IE. Its got to such an extent that - whilst connected to the internet - I cannot open any window (My computer, my docs or anything). The mouse shows the loading time thing and then nothing. But once I've disconnected from the net all the things I clicked on suddenly appear. I have recently installed 2 updates from the "windows update" thing which were tiny files to fix small security holes. I have also tried uninstalling IE 6 and then re-installing it but this, if anything, made it worse.

I would really appriciate help on this as its a pretty major concern.

Thanks

Also a anyone know of any good computer game guide sites - I cannot complete games without them   :(  I heard Shogun was one of the best stategy games out there. I really like games like Total Annihilation and was looking for a similar game. Any other alternatives?

I was just wondering. I was watching Dawsons Creak the other day and they're all in collage. In the U.S do you go to college at 16 or 18? If 18 then is it an alternative to Uni? Also, on the ame note,  when you graduate from high school is this at 16 or 18? I know all the cast are older than their script counterparts but they've moved citys - in some cases like 3000 miles - and at 16 this would be a big undertake.

I was thinking the other day about the nicks we use as we use in this forum. So I thought I would write a post and ask a few questions. I think it'd be fun for us all to read the replies. Okay here goes...

What does your nick in this forum mean? How did you come up with it? Or, why do you use it?

Some are obvious of course but you should still reply

Whether you guys could check out my forum. Give me feedback on colours and stuff and mebye sign up...? I'm thinking of setting up a small package to send to webmasters asking if they would put links up on their pages. I could really do with a smallish logo and banner to put in there - hints to the pros at prgrams like paintshop and photoshop to give him a hand. I do have Photoshop7 but I can't do anything with it

Thanks and I'll hope you'll help my forum be as sucessfull as this one  :)

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Viruses
« on: September 23, 2002, 05:34:49 AM »
I was just wondering what kind of security you need on your P.C to stop viruses. I have Norton Anti-virus. Is this enough? I did have Zone Alarm Pro but since downloading an updated version it stopped working. Is it a necessity? I also have one file on my P.C - its an image - which shows a blank square when opened and yet refuses to be deleted. I have just done a full computer scan and it wasn't picked up but its still alittle worring. Does Norton Anitvirus pick up the ones that are programmed to go off at a certain time? I'm just a little nervous as yesterday I was alerted to a Worm virus hidden behind a program. Admittedly it wouldn't have been too bad if it had been opened - it just sent information from media files on the hard drive and spreaded copies of itself under different names across the hard drive but its unsettling.

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / .Mpg Vs .Avi
« on: September 15, 2002, 02:40:47 AM »
I was just wondering what the diff was between the two formats. When downloading stuff I always go for .Mpg as you can preview this type of file in advance. Is there really any advantage of .Mpg over .Avi and if so what? Is there any way of preveiwing .Avi files so you don't spend forever downloading a dud ( In Kazaa lite or Imesh ). Finally I'm uncertain of exaclty what the resolution numbers mean. In general I assumed that .Mpg had superior resolution but I have seen some .Avi files with larger numbers for resolution than their .Mpg equivilent. Is the higher the numbers the better the quality of picture in the same size screen or is it just a lager screen.

Thanks

I've gotta make up a short presentation for ICT class and was wondering if there are any simple but effective tips that people have. I haven't really used power point much and thus my presentation is pretty plain with the odd slide transaction to tie it togather.  Any help is great.

Thanks,

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / CD Burning
« on: September 04, 2002, 01:12:01 PM »
I need to re-install Windows but I have to back some stuff which I've downloaded up. I have a CD Rewriter and Nero Burner but am a little confused about how it all works. I have got some games and stuff that I want to back up as well as Office 2002. Can I just save the original download - a small zipped version - or do I need to back it up after inflation. Also how do I copy stuff but not fill the CD - last time I tried to copy something onto CD was on my Cuz's P.C and I did a full "write" of the CD so I couldn't overwrite it. Since I'm bound to save the wrong thing I really don't wont this to happen.

Also whilst I'm posting could someone explain what linux is. I've got about 1.5 discs of red hat 7.3 but am unsure of whether to continue. Most people say it is like windows but give the user more control but from a few screen caps it looks alot like DoS...Is there much point for a newbie to have it. I usually use my P.C for games and work and I'm not sure that its gonna enhance them so spectacually that I need it. Hmm theres a question to finish with...What is linux used for?

Thanks

I really don't get the Baseball thing. Its just weird - especially on tele. Mabye its just C5's coverage but I was just watching it and its so confusing. It was just players stepping up to the base thingy swinging at the ball and then getting 3 stike outs and then leaving. The one guy that hit the ball got caught out. I mean its not a real sport...they had 3 players gotten out and then it stopped for 5 mins and then another 3 and then a 10 mins break. Football I get. Even rugby. Sometime basketball and Ice Hocky. But Basball...

After reading the rules post in this section forum I realised you underlined the fact that you are in no way a hacking forum. I just assumed you were as I picked up this site when I was searching for info on Sub7. Its weird that you have the info on one of the most feared virus thing on the net and yet seem to feel annoyed when people quiz you on such topics.

just a point,

Hardware, Software, and Other Imperialist Crap / Bios / Cpu problem
« on: August 05, 2002, 05:52:38 PM »
When my P.C boots up an error message appears saying "CPU has been changed or is corrupt see Core settings" and when entered the settings are set to a AMD 1500+ processor at 133mhz - mine is a 2100 - but when i try and change it the cpu crashes and doesn't boot up properly afterwards. The only way to get it up and running again is to reset the CMOS which brings back the CPU problem. I'm also usure of whether I need the system disk in when editing the BIOs as I have changed the boot settings without but have read that you need it in when changing it.
Also I've read that splitting the hard drive is a good way to save disk wastage and thus have done so. My hard drive is spilt into 5 but somewhere along the way I have lost 8 gigs - my hard drive is 123.5 but all my 5 drives add up to 115 gigs. Is there anyway to retrieve this as it is quite alot of space. Finally I have win XP on a 60 gig partition but have read in some places that its worth having it on its own small partition to allow easy re-installtion. Is this a good idea ?

Anarchy / Newbie post

O.K I understand that the accomplished 'hackers' dislike posts like this but how else is a guy supposed to learn...

I've looked everywhere for info on getting into a simple website but have so far had no luck. I've read tons of articles on IP sniffing port scanning and the like but I'm still at a loss at how to do this. Could anyone give a DETAILED account on how to do this - I was thinking along the lines of a site like http://www.qstart.com/renee. Either post it here - which would help lots of people that are in a similar predicement - or p.m me.  Oh yea I've tried that sub 7 thingy - without blowing up my P.C   - but it says that I need to get server version 1.2 but I have no idea where to get this from. I managed to get the Sub7 download from a german site and am pretty sure it wasn't there. The official site didn't work either. Any ideas? finally how would one go about getting into Hotmail - its not AOL :) - I have got that munga bunga cracker but am unsure of how to make it do a straight hack ( ie doing every combination it can). I have also got some cookies from Kazaa but these have so far proved unuasable as they are encoded or summat.

Bear in mind all of you were at this stage at one point in your life so don't get all pissed off and moody.
