ok i have a home network and there are 4 comps on it.  We have two diffrent locations for internet connections.  Why cant i have to diff comps have ICS (internet connection sharing) when i try to enable it on the second comp it says that there is and IP conflict on the network.  Is there any way to override this or is micro$oft just gay and wont let me

well that would solve one problem but i dont want it like that, see i want it set up so that either one can connect and share there connection, otherwise i have to go downstairs to log on instead of just being able to log on the comp in my room

I don't know if that can be done. You could always try configuring one computer to use the other computer with the modem, and the other computer using the OTHER computer with the modem for internet usage to lessen the strain.

I don't know if that will work though. It's kinda like having two gateways on one network.

Oh, who am I kidding, I've never used that stupid ICS stuff before.

Do you connect to your ISP with two different accounts? Or just the same account?

If you're using DHCP, all machines trying to connect will be assigned the same IP (assuming that you are on a connection like mine, which gives me only the one IP that I pay for).

You will probably have to manually specify an 'internal' IP address for the machine that's trying to connect through the primary one.

If you don't know what DHCP is, you probably shouldn't be messing with this stuff.

You see... if you're using those two modems with the same account at your ISP, chances are that you're getting two of the same IP addresses to use, and it dosn't like that since it's like having two right arms and trying to write with your left one. You can't do it because you don't have a left arm.

this shouldnt have ne thing to do with my ISP the IP conflict comes when i try to enable ICS on the second comp.  It says that Ip is conflicting with another user.  but when i disable ICS on the other one,  i can enable it on mine

Your ISP assigns your account an IP address to use. So if you have both "serving" computers connecting to the internet to share the bandwidth with the same user information, then you're going to run into some problems because the two "serving" computers have the same IP address.

noooo, im not connecting to my ISP at the same time, i just have two diffrent locations in the same house that have modems, and i just would like to be able to conect to the internet on which ever comp is closer to me, instead of always going to the same one to log on.

How is this network setup anyway? Typically, home networks consist of one connection going to a router. If the router as a hub built in it, then all the PCs connect to the router. If the router doesn't have a hub, then connect a hub to the router and PCs to the hub. You may also want to use a switch instead of a hub. A swicth will refrech your signal (altough it's not necesaary in a home unless your house is like 10,000 Square feet!) but it also lets other comps see each other right away without the need for complex configurations (complex for noobs anyway...).
