They might be a lot more efficient, but they run hotter and therefore are less reliable.

I used to run an AMD Athlon computer and I had problems with it constantly.  My new computer is a PIII (yeah, not a PIV, but good none the less) and I haven't had anything go wrong yet.  It might crash a couple times in a month, but it's better than crashing a couple of times in an hour (like my last computer).

Dont know what the hell would cause it to crash a couple of times per hour!

I have a P3, P4, and a AMD Athlon XP 1900. I tested all 3 as servers and gaming machines. The P4 does get more FPS then the Athlon but only if the P4 is around 200Mhz-300Mhz faster than the Athlon. On the other hand if the Athlon and the P4 have simular clock speeds the Athlon gets more FPS.

As server machines all 3 run quite well but depending on the traffic and amount of data they transfer.

The Athlon XP 1900 is visualy more efficient, stable and faster even though it has a lower clock speed then the P4.

The P3 is as stable as the P4 but of course slower but none the less it gets the job done quite well in both gaming and as a server. Of course it depends on the rest of the hardware too.

Having said that i wanna make it clear that this is just my opinion and I dont wanna get flamed for it.

Actually in my experience it was. Mite have been coz it was a cheap fan though...

Also with 2 fans in the P.C's still very hot. Still I've been told by many people that Athlons are better than P4 and mine seems to be fine.

I can be totaly honest when saying this: I have NEVER had ANY problems with ANY AMD processor.

Belive it or not.

And I only have one fan in there. Only reason i would add more is couse of what i have cramed in there, like vid 2 cards and other crap that makes everything run hoter.

Basicly if you develop a proper air flow in any box the processor and everything else will run cooler.

I've changed my opinion, now i like p4's... you can overclock them much further at ease than athlons.  Without all the heat as well.
