If you have an idea that your video card is screwing things up, have you tried downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website? Also, when was the last time you ran any Anti-virus\Anti-spyware programs? Is this a legit copy of Windows XP or a 'trial' version?

Hmm...when windows says graphics device I think they mean the sound card so I decided to change out the floppy drive and replace it with a hard drive, I hear they work better.

I saw that whole 'change the CD-ROM' thing and figured I must have misread that part because nobody would do something that....'different'.

My guess would be that your power supply needs more RAM.  Without enough power supply RAM (or "PSR" as we call it in the business), you'll often have video/display problems.

I would suggest going to your local Best Buy with your computer and request that a Geek Squad computer technician install more PSR for you.  They should be able to do that right in the store, so it'll be quick and cheap.

When you have years and years of experience like I do, Xolik, you'll be more on top of issues like that.

Don't worry, dude.  It'll come in time.

thanks guys for all the help. maybe i should explain a little better. the reason i pulled out the cd drive was because every time i booted up with a cd in it the computer would start scrweing up. the cd drive and the graphics card are the same brand so i figured ther had to be some relation. but as soon as i changed cd drives the video card stopped woking. so maybe it was a little stupid but i think i have made it a little clearer. anyway again thanks for all the help. hodds

That doesn't make much sense. Perhaps you accidently jiggled the card?Does the board have a built in video card? Make sure that you disable that in the bios if you are using a seperate video card.

My advice is the remove all components that are non essential, like your  modem to dial into AOL for example, and start booting the PC without all the crap. Remove any sound cards that you have, or any thing that isn't necessary for the operation of the PC including your CDROM and or DVD. Try to see if it will boot up proprely and operate normally. If so, then shut down and add one component back in. Repeat process until you figure out which component is causing problems. If it appears random, then you may have a power problem. Replace your power supply.

If all esle fails, you can always turn to the CMOS spanker utility or the turbo hard drive spinner.
