So congress didn't give him the power to give other people the power to help with the evacuation of New Orleans?

Shouldn't someone in the government be dealing with the evacuation of natural disaster victims, and if not, shouldn't he have pressed the issue.

He-he, sorry i've been turning this into a political debate, but we go off topic on almost every introduction so...

I'm not debating this.  You have no concept of how government works.

Thats a cowardly flight really. It is a good remark and if the government of the US cannot do such things, it has to be reformed. Welcome to the western world. You drown and starve, so what? Especially the US, the icon of western civilization should set the example and take care of people, young and old, black and white, as they try to do in other countries.
If our western civilization depicts itself as solitary and closed, no integration whatsoever is possible between all races of the world. That is what we want, don't we? One living, healthy planet, everybody working together for eachother and our future?

Cowardly?  Because he has no clue what roles/responsibilities each branch of the US govt has?  I think not.

No!  You see, that's just it!  We don't take care of our people via the government.  We shouldn't.  This isn't a socialistic economy.  It is capitalistic.  The people should be self sufficient (excepting the approx 4% which will fall throught he cracks in a capitalistic economy).  It is the very coddling that you suggest that brought these people to rely upon a government wich was not designed nor intended to take care of the individual.

Thanks, TeraHammer, but he is right. I have no Idea how government works, and I can also misuse words like "debate" i think i meant discuss. But I already said that I have no grasp of anything related to politics. Be kind to the minor

Capitalism is good to encourage working, but you can overreact. If you take care just for yourself and let others die, it is not good for your country either. Needed laboreres die just because the director is too busy with his own little house on the prairie.
Another argument; Christrianity. Bush and with him the American goverment is an open christrian. Why then is he not helping his neighbour?

In general, capitalism can be very much succesfull. However, in disasters caused by nature or anything not finding its origin in personal wrongdoing, community should help the individuals.

It does not benefit the employer, in the long run, to let his employees die as a result of his greed.  Besides, we have some government oversight to ensure that employees are treated fairly.  It is the responsibility of the government to enforce the laws designed to protect the individual, not to care for and provide for the individual.

Further, in the event of a disaster such as Katrina, it is the responsibility of the individual, the individual's immediate family, the individual's extended family, the individual's friends and neighbors, various non-profit entities who's primary mission is to help the needy, various faith based organizations to which an individual may belong, city-council district leaders, the mayor of the city and his staff, the county officials, and finally the state officials (including the National Guard) before it would fall on the shoulders of the federal government.

There were failures in the Katrina disaster at many of those levels.  However, the blame does not belong with the president.  Surely you didn't mean to call each of the people along the way racist, did you?

If you want to protect people, you have to care for them and provide goods. Otherwise how do you want to protect them? Mental "protection" is good, but it does not help very much to save your life, does it?

Well, thats retarded. This organisation is inhuman in my eyes. Only at extreme cases the federal goverment is involved, right? Was Katrina not extreme enough? This is inhuman. People died while the federal government had the means to quickly help and save them, but left it to the local authorities. Not?

In any case, Bush should have showed at least spiritual help, visiting the area. Now it seems Bush - and with him the federal government - doesnt even care about his citizens.

Take Clinton. It was HE who went to the victims of 9-11.

I have a question. Did the government help with recovering after 9/11? or was that left to charitable organizations?

People use these simple keystrokes, found on any keyboard, to express emotions, thoughts and actions. They can be thought of as the computer users body language. These smilies are commonly found in email, usenet, newsgroups, chat rooms, and mailing lists.

I don't really see the point in your  post but to me smilies are useful if you are not capable to express irony, humor, grief etc. in words.

There was no smilie in your quote towards me nor was there a smilie in my reply.

May be I'm not having a good day, I don't know ,but what exactly did you mean by that?, do you have anything against the socialist sistem?. Ok, it's not perfect, quite a few things should be modified (wish i could express my opinion on this matter in a better way but i'm not familiar with some specific language i'd need to use), but is anything perfect?, it sure seems to be working better than the capitalist sistem. Me and Melian were discussing this matter early today…
But as i said, may be you didn't mean any of the things i thought you did, so in that case, sorry for the misunderstanding
