I don't really see the point in your  post but to me smilies are useful if you are not capable to express irony, humor, grief etc. in words.

There was no smilie in your quote towards me nor was there a smilie in my reply.

Poor thing. No smiley? I'm sorry.  :D  :)  :(  :o    :?  8)    :x  :P              :!:  :?:

When discussing/argueing with people it is a good habit to take them seriously. I always try and in this case it is very hard.

Are you religious?, ññe, don't mind that

Yeah I'm religious. I actually play the church organ. But... what has that to do with communism? I know you Yankees hate that :P, but in theory, if everybody was the same, and got the same, and we wouldnt mind, wouldnt that be fair?

That would be boring. The struggle for wealth and recogniction would mean nothing. Everyone would just be an ordinary bloke working at McD. Well, no, but you get the idea.

wait! i missread the post, i read capitalism instead of comunism, i agree with the fact that the socialist system is better. As i said quite a few times, this is not one of my best days

the religion part had nothing to do with comunism, it was just something you said, i was just trying to prove myself a point, ignore that

Yeah, it would be boring and it wouldnt work with us humans at the moment.
However, in an ideal world, no hunger, no diseases, everybody sharing, food, knowledge, that would be fantastic.

I suppose if you put it that way it would be fantastic.

One of the things I would miss though is different languages. I think it's fascinating how many diverse langauges and cultures there are, and if the world was like that what would happen to religion?

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Quote from: TeraHammer
If you want to protect people, you have to care for them and provide goods. Otherwise how do you want to protect them? Mental "protection" is good, but it does not help very much to save your life, does it?
I don't want to protect people via the government.  That gives the government too much power.  I'd prefer that the individual care for himself.  I can only think of a very limited number of things that the government can do for me better than I can do for myself.  Alerting me to the potential danger of an apporoaching hurricane could possibly be one of them.  Moving me out of harms way is not.  Look, I live in an area where there are tornados every year.  The government, through the national weather service issues warnings when a tornado is spotted via their large network of public officials including police, fire, etc.  It is not their responsibility to escort me to my basement to take cover.  If I live in a home with out a basement (storm cellar), I should be aware of that and know where the closest protective cover is located.  That cover may actually be provided by some government agency; however, it is not that shelter's responsibility to go get me and take me to that location when the storm is coming.  Similarly, Katrina sat in the Gulf of Mexico for 5 days.  If you stayed in harms way because you didn't fear the storm, or you didn't think the weather people knew what they were doing, it's not the president's fault.  I find it hard to place the blame anywhere other than squarely upon the shoulders of the individual.  Clearly they knew they lived below sea-level and that the leves weren't designed to withstand the force of a storm the size of Katrina.
Quote
Well, thats retarded.

This organisation is inhuman in my eyes.
You're entitled to your opinion.  I disagree with you, though.  I don't know what's so inhuman about self, family, friends, neighbors, church and community.
Quote
Only at extreme cases the federal goverment is involved, right?
And then, only when the city and state government gives the federal government the authority to act.  You see, the president doesn't have the power to call up the national guard for a state or local issue.  That power resides with the governor.
Quote
Was Katrina not extreme enough? This is inhuman. People died while the federal government had the means to quickly help and save them, but left it to the local authorities. Not?
People died despite having 5 days of warnings, 30 years of talk about weak leves, and many places within walking distance, or a very short drive where they could have taken shelter.
Quote
In any case, Bush should have showed at least spiritual help, visiting the area. Now it seems Bush - and with him the federal government - doesnt even care about his citizens.
Oh, caring and visiting is VERY important and George Bush should have visited the New Orleans area!  You're 100% correct!

May be I'm not having a good day, I don't know ,but what exactly did you mean by that?, do you have anything against the socialist sistem?. Ok, it's not perfect, quite a few things should be modified (wish i could express my opinion on this matter in a better way but i'm not familiar with some specific language i'd need to use), but is anything perfect?, it sure seems to be working better than the capitalist sistem. Me and Melian were discussing this matter early today…
But as i said, may be you didn't mean any of the things i thought you did, so in that case, sorry for the misunderstanding
I meant that the economy in the US is laze fair capitalism (not quite as laze fair as some would like), not one based on socialism.  I do have something against the socialistic system.  You're right, it's not perfect... nor is capitalism.  You presume that socialism works better than capitalism? Here... fill in these blanks.

The following socialist economies have a larger GDP than the USA _____________________.
The following socialist economies produce more food per year than the USA ________________________.
The following socialist economies have been more successful in times of war than the  USA __________________________.
The following socialist economies have furthered technology at a faster pace than the USA _____________________.
The following socialist economies have more people trying to get into their country than does the USA __________________.

I don't want to get too into it, but...

BizB, what about the people that were left to die in hospitals and nursing homes?

Also, New Orleans is one of the poorest cities where 28% live below the poverty line compared to a national average of 9%.
Roughly 50,000 people don't have cars there and they were left to their own devices and methods of leaving the city.

And since someone mentioned race, 89% of these poor people mentioned are Black/African American.

Also, methods used oto set the poverty line are artificially LOW. We use a formula where housholds use 1/3 of income for food. Today we spend less on food, but we are still using it as a basis.

I guess you are right about Katrina and Bush, allthough Bush could have reacted in a better way at first. My information has not been complete. There have been warnings from authorities.

Joeri Gagarin was the first man in space, from the Sovjets.

Japan is very close to the US.

The US is the top. More interesting though is:

The SovjetUnion, in WW2. They turned the face of war in Stalingrad, and they defeated Hitler, not America. Fact is, they could not have done it without eachother.

I don't know about that, and neither do you.

Also, lots of your lines are about surface area and citizens, making the US a big country with many advantages in your criteria.

Live in better conditions?  USA
Better educated?  HA!  You point to one of the USA's biggest failures -  a failure because it is controlled by the state rather than being allowed to happen naturally through the capitalistic mechanism - as an example of a USA failure?  Sure... I'll give you this one.  The USA has failed the citizenry in this attempt to provide for them using socialism as a model.
Health system?  I'd rather get sick here.  They may have state provided health care and they may have more doctors to patients, but here, if I want to pay more for a better doctor, I can.  I like that option.
