Is there any way...

Is there any way to make Kazaa play .avi files. I alway thought it only played .mpg - and similar files - but other people seem to imply otherwise. Are there decent alternatives that do both. Is there a way to make Kazaa play DiVX as well? Its alot easier to be able to preview files before you download them.

Also I've got a vid file that I can't get to work. It says its .mpeg formatt but it wont work in either Win media or Winamp (It plays as just audio) Are there any other programs that it might work on - I was thinking Quicktime or Real Player.

Thanks

make sure you have quicktime installed
make sure you have divx installed
real player is nice to have too.
make sure windows media player is updated.

then, after you do all that, avi should play correctly in kazaa, as its not actually kazaa playing the files.  the audio but no video is a result of no divx probably.

Still can't get it to work  :?

I have downloaded Quicktime and Real One Player

I've got DivX 4.0

Not entirely sure whats the latest version of Windows Media  mine says version 8.00.00.4477.

Is there anything I've missed. The majority of the downloads that I'm trying to preview are DivX full movies (I still can't get the vid clip that I've downloaded to work even in Real One or Quick time :() It could be that most of the programs aren't legit...

Try checking out your "Windows Updates" thing.

That may shed some light on the situation. Keep checking for updates every so often.

I've never been able to get Kazaa to play .avi's, and I've the latest versions of Windows Media, DivX, and QuickTime.  Maybe it's Kazaa's fault.  Ever think of that?  Huh huh?  Didja?

http://www.vcdhelp.com/

Here is a site that will help with all those video questions.  There you will be able to find a program called DivFix which will allow you to open Divx dat files to see what they are without downloading the entire movie and finding out it's something you didn't want.

DC

P.S. I know this was an old thread but since Jay opened it figured I'd throw in my .02.

Heh thanks,

In any case I have found a nifty little site with a couple of cool hacks for Kazaa - amoung them were a thing to cheat your p/l level, a speed booster thing and an ace program which allows you to paste "hashes" into Kazaa allowing you to download exact files which people know that work. It also included a program called "AVi Preview" which as the name suggests allows you to preview Dat .AVi files - probably like the DivFix.

Now all I need to do is to get my P.C working again and I'll be sorted
