What I don't get is why NOW it's all of a sudden such a shameful, disgusting thing; but back when it was Gerry Studs (D) fucking young boy pages, it was ok. He never had to step down; actually, he ran and was re-elected.

 Oh yeah. It wasn't right before an election.  :roll:

No, we certaintly can't have any of those gaaayyys in Congress. They might get uppity and redecorate the place.  :w:

Oh, come on, it's not about any of that. He has been out of the closet among his peers for quite some time by many reports; he often brought boyfriends to private parties etc. He was like the Cesar Romero of congress - and this is nothing but (very low level, in the great scheme of things) sexual harassment. Congressional pages are the best high schools have to offer, generally, and are very mature, politically minded kids who can handle a suave congressman's advances. None of these guys cares about this sort of small stuff, this is all about election politics, the would never have seen the light of day in another circumstance.

It was mentioned that there was also another Republican that had done this a while back.

Oh, and it's something of a big deal because the GOP likes to have a "holier-than-thou-because-we-have-god" attitude.

And it's a big deal for Foley, but not for Studds? Regardless of the "attitude" someone or some group may have, it's the same fucking thing.

Also, if Hastert needs to step down because of Foley's shenanigans, what about Nguyen? Shouldn't he automatically step down because of his "staffer's" |> threatening letters? And how about Jefferson, with 90,000 bucks in his freezer? Or Reid... I could go on; with both major parties.  Shit, there's one up there in Congress who is a murderer, and he's a big player.

 I'm not trying to defend anybody who has committed any crime (in any party), but come the fuck on. Why is there so much noise about how Hastert should step down, yet not a PEEP about Jefferson; who has refused to step down.

Nah, I was just wondering if you meant him. I'm from Boston so I unfortunately know the ins and outs of Ted Kennedy, and the sheer fact that the public at large is dumb enough in MA to continually vote that loser back in is enough to make me never want to return.

All of them are vile.  But that doesn't make Foley any less vile.  Jefferson is way up there on my list too.  I'd love to see a good house cleaning of the Congressmen.  The current Rolling Stone has a nice piece about this Congress, that I'm about halfway through reading.  After my morning dump tomorrow, I should be through it.

It'd be nice if the entire congress was cleaned out, but unfortunately I doubt it'll happen.
