Glen Beck
« on: February 29, 2008, 03:03:01 PM »

I heard an interview on NPR the other day with Glen Beck, who is some kind of conservative talk radio host who I have heard of but never listened to.  As he talked, he started sounding familiar... (and I paraphrase, mind you)

"I started fairly liberal, with libertarian leanings..."

Hey, me too!

"I have always been a fiscal conservative..."

Hey, me too!

"I started to think about what I really believe, and to make sure I was consistent..."

I'm pretty sure I've used those exact words before!

"And that's when I started becoming more socially conservative..."

Hey, me t-.... wait.  Weird Tingly Feeling?
How can two people start with such similar givens and come to such radically different conclusions?  He seemed like a well-spoken, intelligent individual, but his reason obviously went astray at some point.
You know who else was a social conservative?  Hitler, that's who.

He also has or recently had a show on cable -- CNN HN, I think.

He's a slippery one, Beck is. He can sound reasonable and grown up and moderate when he needs to, but underneath he's just another loudmouth wingnut making a buck off the neocon demagoguery movement.

Glenn Beck is an (recovering? recovered?) alcoholic who found John Smith and changed his life.  His change from socially liberal to socially conservative coincides with his finding Pepe through John Smith.

Glenn also has a hard-on for the apocalypse and talks about how Mahmoud_Ahmadinejad (pronouned: I'm-in-a-jihad) is doing everything he can to bring forth the Anti-Christ in order to facilitate the coming of the 12th imam or somesuchnonsense.

I listen to him daily and it curls my ear hairs when he gets on a rant.  He does do some funny stuff, though.  For example, "More On Trivia" (pronounced: moron trivia).

This should be in some kind of "guilty pleasures" thread, but you know who I'm listening to lately? Fucking Dr. Michael Savage. He's a maniac, quite literally I think. He's the secular version of Gene Scott.

There's only room in this world for Savage since Art Bell was finally abducted by the aliens.

Good to know.

As far as that, I expected Pb to swoop down and tell me it was an acronym of lofty proportions.
