when you do ipconfig / release *, then ip config /renew * are you actually receiving an ip addess? Or are you gettign a bunch of zero's, blanks, or an error message?

Maybe you have a virus. Lay off the pr0n!

Anyway, she just bought Norton and had it installed but couldn't activate it because she couldn't connect to the internet. Now I didn't try pinging google (just did the loopback) but I got mad at Norton and uninstalled it (of course after 30 minutes of trying to get the damn Dell to boot to safe mode becuase Norton has anti-uninstall hacks).

Anyway again, internet was up and running fine after Norton was gone. I just went and got her SpyBot and told her to take it easy on the porn and she'd be OK.

Did I ever tell you what it was?  Well, I don't really know why it wasn't working, but I know how I fixed it.  I had to get an ethernet to USB adaptor and went through the USB connection and now it gets internet.
