I have had Jesus Camp on the DVR for probably six or eight months now, and I just now got around to watching it.  I imagine it is much like seeing a UFO or a ghost - you're glad you did, but maybe in some ways you wish you wouldn't have.
Maybe I'll have a more measured feeling about it in a day or two, but for now, this is the saddest, scariest, most horrifying thing I have ever seen, and I've seen Mr. Belvedere naked.

I think we all know that there are kooky adults out there, and we also probably all know that they teach there kids kooky things.  There is still something profoundly disturbing to see kids believing it, crying over it, and regurgitating the horseshit they've been fed, all completely sincerely.

There is a scene where dozens of kids and some adult minders all pray and lay hands on a cardboard cutout of W like there is a Songs 4 Worship CD playing or something, and they then proceed to pray that Bush receives the diving provenance that will give him the strength to pick a good, holy judge (to replace O'Connor I think), followed by chants of "righteous judges!" from the kids and adults.  I think that's all that really needs to be said.

Ya know, I wonder why there's no outcry against shit like this from the more moderate Christians. I've been around the Methodist church all my life; my grandfather was a Methodist minister, and I can assure you they ain't all that head-fuckt. I haven't seen that DVD, but I have seen clips of the same thing; it IS unnerving to know these kids will be released into society eventually.

I know that it is somewhat of a differant topic and on the opposite end of the spectrum, but i thought id like to bring up Westboro Baptist Church. Though they have an opposing political agenda they seem to be just as insane and just as good at taking a decent religon (inquisitions aside because it can be agreed that the old catholic church was remanesant of the Legion of Doom) and turning it into some uber political freakshow. Personally im Jewish, but when kids are being taught any religon in which they pray around a cardboard cutout of any political figure then its messed up. So just remember. Think of the children!

Ugh I can't stand those kinds of people.  I have no love for religion, but these people make up a minority of true Christians.  I was raised in the church and never came into contact with people like this.  I wish people like this would have found a cult that likes koolaid.

The Christian camp I attended in my youth was very similar to the depiction in this movie. That being said it took a few life altering events to make me realize that this is all we have and to make the best of it while I have it. Cheers to you all and don't let the community of nut balls keep you down.

Actually, they probably won't be, that's the most unnerving part. If they're are released into society, the "real" world can get a hold of them and they'd get a grip, but most of them will marry within their sheltered little group, pop out several kids to which they will feed the same mind bending stupidity and die without ever venturing outside of their own little closed in acreage. And to make matters even sadder,  they won't venture out, because they're too scared, as though the "world" has some sort of disease called intelligence, from which, they must be kept quarantined. That is the unnerving part.

 In all seriousness, since my Religion o Peace thread, I've done some looking around. It seems that it's not just moderate muslims who are silent about extremists; it's everybody. You don't hear any Christians up in arms about stuff depicted in this video; or even the nut cases who show up at veteran's funerals (can't remember their name) with signs such as "God hates fags". These people are extremists the same as the muslim fundamentalists; only not violent.
  Is it a case of "that has nothing to do with MY religion, why should I address it", tacit approval, laziness, or cowardice? I'm sure it's probably different in different situations; but it's certainly NOT solely moderate muslims being quiet about nut cases. I suppose they seem more significant to as they are indeed worldwide, and activley violent against my type. (the radicals, that is; not ALL muslims; are violent)

Not AS violent, maybe. But they've got a few clinics under their belts.
