Hello new person. For a starter tip, please follow basic grammar rules before mashing the 'post' button. Of course, you don't have to do this, but don't whine when you get mocked.

I'm sorry.
I am just so accustomed to the regular broken english featured throughout the web
and the urge to mash was just to great for my will power at the moment.
I will never forget

ok, well
ive been searching for some slightly generic...

This would be the first time anyone's ever referred to anything I did as "generic". Is this supposed to be a good thing?

... intellectual...

The words, "Be careful what you wish for," sink through my mind.

... and downright anti-social forum...

That statement in and of itself is a complete contradiction. Forums are places where one can have social interactions with others. The very purpose of forums is communication, knowledge, and social action. An anti-social forum is a forum that doesn't exist. No really. It just doesn't exist.

...
soo if you have any questions just ask and i will give -a- response.
...

Why did you stress "a" in this sentence?
Who is Soo?
Does the above question suggest that I will be given a single answer to all my questions, or is it just me?

Welcome, enjoy your stay.  :-)

by generic I was trying to define a place with a wide variety of ideas and conversations.
the opposite would be a forum with a specialized purpose like saving manatees or something.

i hope the wish for an intellectual forum dont come back to haunt me

the entire anti-social thing might have been more of a lapsis lingua on my part.
i was trying to describe the usual unsocial behavior of some geeks as opposed to
a socialite or someone within that definition.

due to being warned already to any grammatical complications i will try to stop
placing stressed or unstressed meanings within a word or sentence.

i hope to enjoy my stay, but so far it seems right out of the gate i have been somewhat assaulted so im not to sure.

I caught that too. My impression is that the response you will be given may have nothing at all to do with the question being asked.

"So, what is your favourite color?"
"London."

You'll do fine if you slow down and do things like use proper capitalization and simple things like that. We're a small forum and value things like this. It's one of the many things that sets us apart from this place otherwise reading like the comments section on any Youtube video page.

See? You've already got two + signs, so you know you're doing something right.

That's cool too. Kind of like, talking to Bobbert.

Eh, don't sweat it too much. If you don't spell a few things correctly, we're not going to lynch you. You're posting has already improved dramatically and that's good enough for me.  :-D

Welcome. Nice to see some coherent sentences from a newbie.

And as for the harshness of some responses, it's a weeding out process. Many of us have been members for years on this forum, and there's a core group that has been around for longer than that on various other places. We like out little corner of the Interpr0nwebernet, and we're not afraid to protect it from random attacks of stupidity.

Now then... I've never read Paradise Lost, although it's counted as a classic of literature and I know I should read it, just being a classic isn't enough for me. What's so special about the book that makes it worth reading?

After ive been online for a couple of days ive gotten this idea of this group as some incredible internet engima that i was lucky enough to find.

And to answer your question about paradise lost, one of the reasons i am such a fan is that it portrays a classical character in a new light (satan). It is kind of like growing up watching adam west play a cartoony version of batman and then finding the dark horse novels that show him as some really gritty and dark anti-superhero. I geuss its just nice to see a familiar character from a differant perspective.

unfortunatley it suffers the same plague as much of classic lit. in that it has a great idea but the writing style of the day made this great idea into a really long and drawn out book. personally unless you are some classic lit. scholar then i would just recommend cliffnotes, no fear, or if all else fails sparknotes.

You should read Grendel by John Gardner, Wicked by Gregory Maguire, and my Smurf short story.

That's one of my favourite books.  I haven't read it in about 15 years; I've been meaning to re-read it once I finish the book I'm currently on.

I don't know if it holds up over time... I personally can't stand his incessant whining these days.   But anyone who enjoys different perspectives on well established characters should still check it out.

The Piers Anthony Incarnations of Immortality series does a great job of presenting some alternate takes on established forces of nature too.

I read Wicked a couple of years ago. It was pretty good, although I remember thinking while reading it that bits of it didn't make much sense. I can't remember specifics now though.

I just really liked John Gardner's characterization of Grendel himself.  I found most of the book utterly hilarious.

I love the Incarnations series.  I think they'd make a great series of movies, if adapted properly.

Wicked was good, though I found a lot of the politics pretty tedious.

How many times does it describe the panties of 12 year old girls?

I think my favourite parts are the descriptions of Dorothy as a big, fat, cornfed Kansas farmgirl, as well as the Wizard arriving in his blood-red balloon, shortly before overthrowing the legitimate Oz-ian government in a violent coup

None if I recall correctly. That series is quite a bit different from his Xanth stuff. I stopped reading Xanth books after about the 7th-8th one when I realized they were all pretty much the same book with different places and different names.
