I suppose what made it so memorable, Clear_Runway, was that most of us joined there in 2001 and 2002; when things like forum communities and the

like were relatively new. So for many of us, HN was our first online 'family', so-to-speak. Since it was so brutal; there's a sort of 'esprit de corps' for

those of us who lasted and were assimilated into this family we have here on the Geekery today. When an ex-HNer comes by; we don't need to quiz them or

toy with them to see if they can 'hang', or if they're full of st00pid. Just being an ex-HNer says a lot in that regard.

I was, in fact, born at HackerNetwork. I lurked for a long time reading and feeling things out before I even chose a name. I didn't want to pick some

dumb cliche name, something that was going to be obsolete or stupid at some point, or something that could be made fun of easily. Thus 12AX7 was born.

Like 12AX7 said... I've known some of the people here, like Demo, pbsaurus, Chris and Joe Sixpack since about 2002. I feel comfortable popping in every now and then without so much as a "how do you do?"

Holy crap. I can't believe I joined this forum when I was 17. I'm a little afraid to go see what my first few posts were like. It's like a time capsule, except you aren't sure whether its full of delicious cake, or a steaming pile of crap. Like Schroedinger's Cat, except with poo.
