"The Hoyer Misdirect" discussion thread
« on: January 04, 2011, 01:45:59 PM »

In order to preserve the continuity of the actual story thread, please restrict any discussion regarding it to this one instead.

Wunderkind inspired me to do some writing myself, and I figured if I was going to pound out this idea I've had for a while, I might as well do it here too.

Well, not much.  For something like this, I like short, fast-paced chapters, and I like a lot of dialogue.  So it should probably be a pretty quick read once I get more of it written.

Thanks.  I like anti-heroes, and this guy has been wanting to get out of my head and into a story for a while now.

Good strong hard-boiled noir voice, and very cinematographic. I like stories that put pictures in my head.

THANK you.  That's precisely what I'm going for in this.

You know what they say.  "Show, don't tell".  For this kind of story, that's my first commandment.

As a side note, this isn't going where I was expecting it to go; the main characters aren't cooperating.

Chapter three was supposed to end with a fight scene at the bus station.  But they weren't playing ball.

So now I'm not sure what's going to happen next.  I can try to force everyone back into what I had laid out for the overall storyline, but I make no guarantees.  Normally I don't lose control of stronger characters like Eric Wattana and Kelly Hoyer until easily seven or eight chapters in, but this time they clearly have other plans.

Clearly, they are destined for a bromance.

So I finally got around to reading this. I really like it. There's a Dan Brown quality to it (Oooops... did I just insult you?). Much more refined that anything I could do. Interesting main character.

NO there isn't.  And yes, yes you did.

Kelly Hoyer has been bouncing around in my head for quite a while.  As such, he's managed to develop a lot of character before he ever hit the page running.  I have plans to work him in as an NPC further on down the road in my Granite City Spies d20 Modern campaign, but in the mean time, I felt this particular story of his needed to be told (how he got double crossed by Adrian Stansfield, and why, and how he broke out of prison).  And since I'm writing it, I might as well share it with my favourite peanut gallery.  :D

Hey, maybe Eric and Kelly can visit the Louvre and find hidden messages in some paintings!

Maybe they can go to the Louvre and paint secret messages so that Bobert can discover them later?
