help me...I'm lost in website hell
« on: April 28, 2003, 07:57:06 AM »

okay...so here's the deal.

I am taking this electronic research class, and the whole focus of the class is to create your own website.  Yeah. My teacher knows absolutely nothing, to be honest.  So where can I go to get help with creating a VERY basic html page about myself.  Is there a service out there that helps losers like me who know absolutely nada about this?  Can one of you guys help me out.  help me please gods of website-land.

Meg!

well, you could go here... pretty basic.

or you could use a program like dreamweaver or something to make it like a document rather then coding it.

Could just ask for what you need on here, I'm decent enough with html, and I'm almost positive there are others here who are great with it.  And google can help you find anything you need.

Jasc makes it, you can download a trial for 30 days, after which you pay for it.  Worth the download, it can make some really nice pages.

This was made with it, but it's got more advanced things on it (Iframes mainly).  Was a school project, that's why the content is utter crap.

Htmlgoodies is quite a popular site for learning html. If your making a basic website then just used frontpage - its easy to use and have many features used in word and other MS products so doesn't take alot of getting used to. Webmonkey is another site for web designing info.

I reccomend learning the basic html tags, i.e. link tags, html structure, image tags, etc etc, and then learn CSS. With a little bit of html skill, and CSS, you can do some pretty good stuff.

Also, try making a page in a WYSIWYG program like dreamweaver, and then go through it by hand and just play with it.

If all you want to do is learn HTML and come up with a few basic pages, I recommend you use notepad and code everything from scratch. It's the best way to learn because you understand the logic behind things. sure it's a little more complicated, but you learn.

I could compare this to dragging a file from C: to your desktop in windows. You click the windows explorer, drag it over the desktop and release. Done. It's very easy, but you don't really understand the logic behind it. Now if you were to go to the command prompt and run the "copy" command in DOS, now you can understand what windows did when you dragged that file over.

Anyway, it's really up to you. You can uses something like front page and use it as a word processor, or you can code evertying by hand and actually understand what the heck you're doing.

Here's a site that covers the basics. It can't be simper than this.

ust write the HTML code in notepad ans save as filename.HTM or filename.HTML

Crap, you bumped an old thread and I got caught in your little game. Before you reply to threads, please check the last post date. Normally when the thread is a week old or more, it's dead.
