Need help with pop ups
« on: April 30, 2003, 07:17:14 AM »

OK, this is really starting to piss me off. I'm playing Day of Defeat then all of a sudden, my internet explorer starts up on its own and gives me a fucking ad. I can't figure out how this is happening. How can one tell IE to start up on it's own and point to a specific site every hour or so? I checked the task manager and that was empty. So where is this being run from? I'm on Win98.

Since I'm at school, I can't figure out what programs I use at home to stop ad's, however, I can ask you this:  Do you get rid of spy-ware on your computer?

I was just reading a post from demo at HN and downloaded spybot seek and destroy. Just ran it. I`ll find out within 1 hour if that took care of it.

Used to happen to me a lot when I had Kazaa.  I switched to Kazaa-Lite and it hasn't happened, but I also cleaned all my spy-ware, and downloaded SpyStopper and Popup Killer all in the same day, appears to have done the trick.

Yea, check your installed programs. You will sometimes see fishy stuff in there that you can uninstall as well.
