Title: Softwear for you HEAD
Post by: Min on February 01, 2007, 07:21:07 PM
So is a flexfit hat better than a fitted cap?  I know it would be easier to purchase as a gift, but will it wind up looking dorky?  Figuring out the size of a fitted cap he would be might be kind of hard.

What say you Geekery?

By "flexfit" do you mean with the little plastic snaps in the back? Or velcro... I think some have velcro now.
When I was in the military, most men's hat sizes fell between 7" and 71/2" . Are you trying to suprise him?
Wait - duh. (Yeh, or I would have just asked him his size)
I dont know how you'd find out without fooling with his head. Maybe make him a crown to match your tiara; claim him as your King, have a Royally fun night, then the next morning, grab the measurements used to make the crown fit. He'll never suspect you're getting him a hat.   :-)

Um...I'm assuming, of course, this is your man you're talking about; not, like, your Dad...

I was trying to find advice on the internets about how to find out his head size and someone said to get a flexfit hat.  He said it's much better than fitted and I imagined that it would be easier to buy.  When I GIS'd it, there aren't many pictures of the back so I was weary of it (Just kidding Verpsertine!  I remember that's one of your pet peaves)(Oh, and I actually didn't type the extra r on purpose, it was an accident and I didn't fix it cause it's funny to me.).

What was I saying?  Oh yeah, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with it.  I don't know if I've ever seen one.  Maybe I have and just thought it was a fitted cap.

Here's the picture I found.

That guy looks like a dork.

PS.  Yeah, I'm trying to surprise him with a fitted cap for his birthday that was last week.  My original plan was to steal his other cap and take it to the hat store to get a fitted Met cap.  But I couldn't find anyplace around here that sells baseball caps for some reason.  So I found it on amazon and wanted to be done with it.  I figured I can just measure his hat.  But then still...I don't know what size it will translate to.

Fitted hats are alright, I've never minded them.

YiKES!!
I'm not sure how the size translates, either. Sorry. I thought it was simply an inch measurement across the bottom edge; but I have my old patrol cap, it's size 7 ; but it measures just over 7" across, so kinda blows that theory outta the water. It actually looks sorta like that flexfit in the back; no adjustment strap. If that's 'flexfit", they sure are more comfortable than one with the strap. They do look dorky, though, lol.
Re-reading this; I dont think I'm helping much, heh.

Well a fitted cap looks like that, but it fits perfectly on your head.  I want that opposed to an adjustable strap.

Better be sure he doesn't decide to get an afro or something after that if you get him a fitted cap.

The straps can look dorky, too, once they start doing that 'roll out'  after being worn awhile. Ya know, where the "extra" snaps are; how that part sorta curls out. So, um . . . there ya go.  The fitted are definately a more comfortable wearing hat. I'd go with that, too, instead of straps.

You could always mod it by finding the hole that works, then superglue it and chop off the excess.

But it has to be a suprise. No way to find out which hole fits ahead of time.

Lawlz I probably should have been clearer but I'd envisioned modding it AFTER giving it to him.

A flexfit hat is like a fitted hat, in which it does not have an adjustable band in the back, but is still able to somewhat stretch to fit someone's head because there's an elastic band around it. A fitted hat only fits a very specific size.

Get him to do some volunteer work that requires a hard hat.  The ones that snap in the back, no knob to quickly adjust, usually have the sizes beside the snap holes.

All that's missing is a little propeler on top. Then it would be the perfect hat!

Whatever Your Head

There was a smiley for it on the previous iteration on BC.  It's a detta-ism for those that have been PAIC

I don't even have :wyh at the moment.  Waankerbot's down.  Again.

So Chris...does the flexfit hat look just like the fitted one?  Or is it dorky looking?

I believe you can't really notice it unless you're looking at the underside of the hat while it's off someone's head.

Thanks!  I went to order the flexfit hat and realized, I still don't know if he would be sm/med or med/large.  So I looked around some more on the internets and found this sizing chart...middle of the page.

http://shop.ccs.com/content/help/jsp/size.jsp;jsessionid=7D7AFE7FDD31D3399929A1FE7E669929.worker4?footerTrack=size

So if I have to measure his hat with a tape measure anyway, I may as well get the fitted hat.  Problem solved.  Thanks for all of your help.

Just tell him you're into human metrics and measure all parts of him.

Or convince him that you're now a professional phrenologist on the side.

Nice!  I always wanted to get one of those phrenology heads.  It would look great in my office.

Well, the hat came in the mail today.  Now I know what size ***I*** am.

:(

It barely fits ME, it's never gonna fit on his fat head.  Should I send it back and get a bigger one, or should I give it to him, say I tried, and find out his actual noggin size...then send it back and get a bigger one?

Your dad sounds pretty cool.  I bet he'd be okay with giving him the little one with the "I'll order the right size" on the card.  :)

You're right.  My dad's real cool.  That's why he doesn't care about what I give Enrique for his birthday.

Thanks.

You want shirts? I have shirts. How about a laptop bag? I have a leather laptop bag with the arches stamped in it, too. You'd be amazed at the stuff McDonald's has made up for their workers.

That's hilarious, but I'm still holding out for a box of those finger condoms...it was a very funny day indeed when I found one of those on my friend's floor...
