On the other hand, He did get a scar ... from something.

Maybe this:

"Clearly it was a fiero-class ufo. The engine caught fire and the whole thing blew up, sending shrapnel down to the ground. The lack of important details simply points to a coverup."

I don't know any geek in their right or left minds that would intentionally encourage stupid.

Two words - Damage control.

St00pid is inevitable and certainly in need of an upgrade (St00pid 2.0?)

Stupid should be irritating; and painful as well.

You'd think that with the present level of technology we now have,
somebody would invent a stupid that was soothing, and pleasuring instead.

Someone should suggest this at the next Geek pride meeting.

During my working years I typically slept 9 or 10 p.m. to 4a.m. ~ish ... I loved the 2 or 3 hours I'd have to myself every morning. The outside world just waking up but being relatively void of other humans had a certain magical aura to it.

I've (the last few years) transformed into a night owl, sleeping on the installment plan where naps are mandatory.

I miss the former schedule nostalgically but lack the initiative/energy/whatever to shift back into that gear ... I guess I'll have to make some shit up to con myself back into it.

Thanks for the condolences.

Support of family and friends coupled with the fact that the inevitable crept up slowly makes it digestible I think.

Five weeks ago today, I lost my best friend.
Thirty two years ago this month we took the chance that we might like each other for awhile.

It worked ... we passed all the stupid hurdles, and some of the smart ones too. Never once did she actually file any papers against me ... not that any of those were her smartest moments but for me it was always my luckiest.

We had 5 kids between us at the start, sprouted a couple more along the way and franchised out into a chain of 14 grandkids and 2 greatgrandkids in assorted locations semi-near us.  They all are missing her.

I'm going to miss her long time.

The one silver lining is that she hasn't been well for some time now and when she left us, it was in pain free comfort and peace.

Do you feel liberated?

Now you can "Investigate", or whatever it is you people do, out in the open.

No more skulking about sniffing out clues in private area's.

Semi-retired, work at home here.

The (were supposed to be) good things:
  • A large part of the income is fixed
  • Extra side work is virtually non existent
  • Existing side work is dwindling
The (as it turns out) not so good things:
  • A large part of the income is fixed
  • Extra side work is virtually non existent
  • Existing side work is dwindling
Changes to prepare for:
  • Assorted progeny and other connected and disconnected relations going into mooch mode
  • Create and Initiate "Chores and favors for food" program so as to appear generous and still win
  • Turn green
  • Polish up the "No, now is not the time to re-evaluate my lack of religion" speech because the seemingly inevitable Armageddon will be a man made phenomenon and if there is a God, he's already made it perfectly clear that he's not interested in fixing stupid.

Backing up and trying again with a lost child maybe?

I dunno, the whole thing does seem creepy when thought of in the "growing people in the lab" frame
but I don't think that was near to what was/is being proposed.

Blatantly disposing the whole notion however, sounds more like a political balance chip.

... Kudos to B.O. for lifting Bushblocks to stem cell research though.

Re: Gitmo:
People or combatants?, that is the question that also haunts the whole affair in my mind. We are not at war with the nation of Iraq, just an often ambiguous group of [insert appropriate term].

The "battlefield" in question here happens to be the streets and neighborhoods that are frequented by the general (Iraqi) population, of whom, some/most may or may not be "combatants". There is no clear, easily definable 'quick-start card' ready instructions for field personnel to use.

Either "solid" intelligence or solid first hand knowledge of combatant activity/behaviour would need to be present to distinguish from "non-combatants". Under the circumstances it is difficult at best to trust that there wouldn't be mistakes made in absolute combatant Identification, and as Ves has pointed out, the ratio of bad guys to goods guys captured is highly questionable. If likely suspects need be rounded up on the fly, a mechanism surely needs be in place to filter out the actual cabdrivers etc. that inadvertantly got caught in the net.

In the spirit of democraticesque fair play, I think it is important that we apply due process to be certain that we are not arbitrarily treating all (Iraqis) as evadoers, especially if we are indeed in the business of winning hearts and minds and trying to lead (spread democracy) by example.

How difficult could it be to err on the side of caution and perhaps give due process to some individuals that didn't necessarily deserve it because of their "combatant status" (which could be proven by said due process) for the sake of ensuring that we aren't wrongly holding others anyway?

My $.02 added

Your code is a little confuzzling so I'm not sure, but it appears that when your timer times out it doesn't send the play head to where the "remove movie clip" actually lives.
