A group of 3,000 Swedish file sharers have succeeded in getting their organisation, called the Church of Kopimism, recognised as a religion by the Swedish authorities.

Just before Christmas, the Swedish governmental agency Kammarkollegiet registered the Church of Kopimism as a religious organisation. This means that Sweden is the first country to recognize kopimism as a religion.

Nice use of the word "panacea".  :)

You know, there's a part of me that thinks that as well.  That they're just that fricken blind.    It's just that that prospect frightens me so much that I'm in denial about it, so let me have my pleasant little illusion, mmkay?

Lol.  You know, I'm sure it's always looking simple when you're playing armchair quarterback like we always do, but I honestly think that I could hand-pick a dozen or so people that I do nothing but piss around with online like this to run this country and we wouldn't do any worse a job.

Just among HNers and teh Geekery (OMFGLOL!!1) members I'd pick:
  • DogStarMan
  • Pbsaurus
  • Ivan
  • Vespertine
  • BizB
  • biggyfred
  • Socrates
  • Detta
  • Banshee
  • Law
  • catwritr
  • Joe Sixpack
  • Xolik
  • PeyoteCoyote
  • Daria
  • 7thSon
Just for starters.

Form a panel.  Make no decisions without discussing them thoroughly among ourselves, with everyone allowed to say what's on their mind about it however they like.

Just a bunch of regular folks.  We could do it better than those 'tards could any day.  Or if nothing else, at least not any worse, right?

I mean shit... we seem to be better-informed, if nothing else.  A lot less prone to extremism of any kind.  A lot more willing to listen to alternative solutions.  Probably quite a bit less antagonistic.

Then we could also form a foreign advisory panel made up of:
  • Kryzec
  • TheJudge
  • Lacerda
  • gorgeous_si
The reason I think we could do AT LEAST AS GOOD a job as the Bush administration is because everybody I listed (plus a bunch I didn't) have one main thing in common:

The capacity for rational thought.  Opinions based on reason rather than dogmatic rhetoric.

That alone could be enough to steer things back onto a course more closely resembling "sane" than anything this country's been on in decades.

Oh crap! Sorry I'm a bit late. What did I miss? Anything important? When do we have a break?

Entertainment / Re: Spotify for ya Yanks?
« on: August 12, 2011, 12:07:48 AM »
To be honest, I dont think I use it to its full potential either. I dont use Facebook so I dont share my playlists through there or so. I use it on my phone, 2 computers at home and 2 at work and I always have the same playlists. All I have to do is to manually decide what playlists I want available offline on each device. Me, my sister and my brother have a shared playlist at the moment. It's our "Suomi Perkele Road Trip Mix" for when go do a quick trip trip to Finland in a few weeks. We 3 assign tunes to the list, my sister will make the list available offline on her phone, and we will send the tracks to the cars radio so we all can enjoy / suffer. Thats what I use it for and its good for me. Note, I use Premium.

Sadly no, there is no add supported Linux version that I know of. I think I read something about having issues with the adds. There is a Premium version though. And I can understand your hesitation when RIAA is involved. I was a bit off to that as well. But as I understand it, not all labels represented on Spotify are RIAA, some are independent. It's actually the RIAA labels that has fought Spotify most, not having their stuff available. I though feel a bit good when the labels cant dictate on what device I'm allowed to play it, if I buy the CD. I dont have problems with backups of purchased music and so on.

In the end. Spotify has worked for me and still works. I pay a monthly fee and I have access to everything they have, for as much as I want, whenever I want, as long as I have a device that can run the software. It might not work for everyone and thats cool, but for me, its worth the few bucks.  :-)

Awesome! Congratulations!

No kids and not married. Doing just fine without tying the knot. Currently juggling 2 jobs and waiting to hear from a third. It's a long story. The short version is that I got tired of my old job about a year ago and quit without having a new job lined up. I don't complain though. For some reason things seem to go alright for me in the end.  :-)

Hmmm. I should swing by IRC again some day I suppose. Anyway, the text about HN is actually quite funny and reading it makes me miss it as well. At least parts of it. I did also have a spider for a while. Cant remember if it was before HN or during. Either way, I'm still alive and kicking!

Obviously, I think human exctinction should be prevented. If a heavy natural disaster or disease strikes Earth and cloning people is the only option to continue, then this is the way to go.

If we actually suffer from such a catastrophy, is there a point in continuing? With such a disaster I'm sure more than just the humans suffer. What the hell are we supposed to do if there is no other life on this planet than us? Clone ourselves for a million years until new plants have developed being able to live in the habitat? Just asking...

Edit: My spelling sucks, which is slightly ironic since I just came home from a english exam...

My world didnt exactly come crashing down on me when I could use U3. In other words; I wasnt really that disappointed as I bought the drive to move around files with. Thanx for the link though. I'm gonna try it out...

22
I have a Cruzer Titanium myself which is supposed to be a U3 drive. I was thinking "sweet, I can run firefox from the stick at school". Nothing happens when I plug the drive in though. Doesnt matter if I have autoplay enabled or no. No U3 for me. Not a big deal but it just makes me more sure that I'm the guy who buys all the faulty products any company makes. Most recent product is a laptop which I sent back 3 times in 3 - 4 months. Got a replacement which I sent back a month later. I can only imagine if I buy a product which is known to fail, like one of those self combusting Volvos. Mine would start WW3...
