I saw that guy's resume on-line. Quite impressive. But I've also heard that if elected, he would spend all of his time on the internet. Which is good. He won't fuck anything up by getting involved and policies and stuff.

True he is a slacker now.  But I hear that he's completely bored with his dead-end job.  A challenge like the presidency would probably mitigate this condition and he'd become a workaholic again and earn all that salary and then some.  Plus I hear that many of the sites this guy visits now are quite revolutionary politically and include free-market.net, mises.org, lewrockwell.com, etc.  Also I hear that he actually reads this very political forum on Teh Geekery OMFGLOL!!!!11!!

I'm anti-Bush, pro-Kerry.

I disliked Bush enough to begin with, but his whole "using the Bible to make government decisions" is just utter BS. We don't live in a theocracy.

Kerry recognizes the fact that religion should be left out of governent issues, and I'm a Democrat.

I dislike Bush more than I like Kerry.

Methinks you should do yourself a favour and investigate third alternatives.  A lot of Americans feel locked into either being Demublicans or Repocrats when other, smaller parties more precisely match their political viewpoints.  A good, long chat with Demosthenes could teach you a lot about the Libertarian party, which it sounds like you might be interested in hearing more about.

I tend toward the Republican side of things, but I've been growing increasingly independent.

No thanks, I'm decidedly a Democrat, and Kerry's the only person that has a shot at getting that ass Bush out of office.

No biggie, just thought you might wanna broaden your horizens.

At your age, I was decidely Republican and decidedly conservative.  Today, I'm not.

I've learned two key lessons as I've gotten older:

1. Ideas are critical in helping you grow, and willingness to listen to, comprehend and test new ideas make you better, wiser and more reasonable;
2. Ideas should never be forced or imposed on others.  Discussed, yes.  Shared, absolutely.  Imposed with an "I'm right and you're wrong" attitude, never.

Political debate is only worthwhile when all parties involved not only talk, but also take time to listen.  We learn through listening.  An ideologue calls this "flip-flopping."  A mature person calls this "growth."

I've never been big on politics and had no idea what political party I most agreed with until earlier this year. But one of my older, very intelligent and politically-tuned friends described in detail the basic beliefs of Republicans and Democrats, and I found myself agreeing with all that the Democratic party stood for.

Since I'm not really into politics, like I said, I don't have interest in looking into all the different variations and smaller parties, especially since I like the Democrat stance already.

Just because a party's basic beliefs follow, doesn't mean the person the party has nominated does. It seems that politicians just play to people in different areas, which shouldn't be a surprise to everyone here. I'm not sure that saying "using the Bible to make government decisions" is a fair comment, because whether he quotes scripture or not, his opinions are going to be based on his faith and how he was raised. If he were muslim, he would probably (as I cannot fairly say that ALL would be influenced) be influenced by the Qur'an, the same as if he were Jewish, he would be influenced by the Torah.[/quote]

Personally, I feel that people that cannot spell the word "election" correctly should never be allowed to vote in one.

So what basic beliefs are those?  What is it that you like about the Democratic platform that your dislike about the Republican one?

I'm far too lazy to type it out, and my friend would have a better way with the words. I basically agree with everything he thinks about politics, so maybe I can have him type it all out later.

That's incredibly stupid. Sorry, but if you can't back up your own decisions, you're nothing but a sheep.
