Weird Tingly Feeling?! ADS ON THE FORUMS?!
« on: June 14, 2006, 11:02:37 PM »

Don't worry... ads are only displayed to those who have not registered or are not currently logged in. I want to give this a try for a little bit and see what happens.

If any of you registered / logged in people notice that you're still seeing the ads while logged in, please let me know in this thread. The only people who will see the ads all the time are myself and The Judge.

Hey, so do you get money for ads if they're blocked by an ad blocker?

Generally ads don't generate revenue unless they lead to pageviews, or in some cases, registrations.

So, probably not.

On the other hand, usually ads are more annoying than effective, and are a pain in the arse.

Impressions are different than clickthroughs, but it depends on how the revenue contract is set up.

Argh.

Revenue is only generated when someone clicks on one of the ads. My goal is to get this place to pay for itself.

Chris, I can see the ads while I'm logged in.

If you click on all the ads once, they should go away. If that doesn't work, clear your cookies and try it again.

I tried doing that, but they're still there... Is there anything else that I should do to get rid of them?

Seriously? Ok, try this:

1) Open your browser of choice
2) Open the same browser again (ie you have it running twice - this can also work if you're using a tabbed browser)
3) Right-click on one of the ads in the first browser (or tab) and go to properties (or its equivalent) and then get the ad's address. Copy it and paste it into the other browser (or tab) and hit enter.
4) Repeat for each ad in each browser until they stop appearing.
