Jew-food is the shiz. I kid you not. So, without further ado, I give you...
...my grandma's kugel recipe!
Ingredients:
- 1 lbs wide egg noodles
such as these- 1 stick (8 Tbsp) butter (or equivalent in oil; works pretty well)
- 16 oz container sour cream*
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar (depending on how sweet you want it; i prefer less)
- 4 eggs
- cinnamon to taste
- optional: peeled and diced apples, raisins, crushed or diced pineapple (however much you want)
* depending on how rich you like it, you can use a half-stick of butter and add 16 oz cottage cheese for a more traditional, rich version. I just don't like cottage cheese.
Preheat oven to 375F
1) cook the noodles, drain.
2) beat eggs, pour over noodles, mix.
3) add sour cream (and cottage cheese if using that), mix. If you wanted to add any fruit, add it in here as well.
4) melt butter, add to noodles along with cinnamon and sugar, mix.
5) put the noodle mixture into a pyrex (or other oven-safe dish).
- completely optional, but if you do not want a crunchy noodle top, rub with oil, or placed crushed cornflakes on top
6) bake in oven for ~1 hr (check it occasionally, though).
This can be cut into pieces and kept in the freezer for at least a few months at minimum.
P.S. This thread makes me incredibly happy. Really. If anyone wants my complicated and/or crazy/inventive recipes, I'll glady share them!
