Multi-User Domains
« on: October 01, 2006, 10:54:19 AM »

I'll earn my 'annoying newbie' title and plug a multi-user domain, or MUD, that I've been a part of for wow, over *10 years* now! (I hope the admins will bear with me because this is seriously a completely free, all-volunteer staff, don't-pay-a-dime-for-ANYTHING (that means NO pay for perks) game.) :) You want to advance your character? You do it in the game, in-character, period.

So if you are tired of the MMORPGs and would like something a little more sophsticated, consider trying the Carrion Fields or another MUD.

Regarding Carrion Fields specifically, it is a fantasy-themed "all of the above" MUD - playerkilling, roleplaying, and questing. With 10 years of an active staff (and some of us have literally been there all 10 years), we've got quite a few unique features and options for character customization. It's class-based, but your warrior will choose weapon specializations and stylish legacies as he advances. Your ranger will choose a home terrain and a personal combat style. Your invoker can distribute points between a variety of elemental paths. Your cleric will actually have to find a shrine, roleplay through a belief system and a human-controlled deity to become empowered with prayers, and so on. Beyond that, we've got competitive cabals, a legal system, ongonig storylines, and experience not just for hack-and-slash, but for exploration, observation, commerce, and roleplaying.

Anyways, give us a visit at www.carrionfields.com - or for the super-geeky, you can telnet directly to carrionfields.com 9999.

Also being involved in the MUD scene for so long, I have a familiarity with several other quality MUDs. If you don't think CF is a match for you (you don't like playerkilling or roleplaying or whatever), respond to this thread and I can probably make a good recommendation.

Or perhaps someone else has a MUD they'd like to recommend to the geeks looking to get into the original style of online multiplayer gaming. :)

Hi there.

Please go introduce yourself in the New Geeks forum. It's not required, per se, but much appreciated.

Thanks!

I haven't played in a MUD since the early 90's.

I just had a flashback to a green screen VAX 101 terminal.
