Laptop Screen
« on: April 10, 2007, 08:38:53 PM »

Blek, laptops sucks sometimes.

I have two ancient Thinkpad 390E's, one of which is just plain fux0red, the other working (but with a broken screen).  I want to swap the screens, but I have no idea how.  Google isn't being my friend, either.

Anybody know how to replace a screen?

My brother did it once on an older HP laptop. They're pretty easy to take apart. If I recall orrectly, I believe he took off one small panel right above the keyboard to disconnect the cables. Then he gently snapped the frame off around the LCD screen using a small flat head screw driver, which then exposed the small philips-head screws used to secure the screen to the case.

Once you take it out, you just need to screw the new one in place and hook up the cables once again.

I spoke to my brother on the matter. A few words of advice from him:

"Be careful when removing the stuff. A lot of it is very small, and if you use too much force, you can easily break stuff that you don't want to be broken."
