Greek geek
« on: July 27, 2009, 03:06:01 PM »

Hello guys and girls, I'm Akis from Athens, Greece, currently 24 years old (born in '85).
I'm not sure if I can really qualify as geek, but I have some interests and characteristics like these:

- study Computer Science (almost graduated now)
- have some experience on programming (Java, C, PHP, Visual Basic .NET, even bothered with Assembly)
- like retro gaming, and emulation, especially arcades. MAME is fun.
- like expanding my knowledge on various subjects, from History to Science, although not a big expert on something.
- like mythology (mainly Greek and Nordic) and some old stories/fairytales, if that counts.
- like to play chess, pretty good player. I've also read strategy books about it.
- like cyberpunk movies such as Terminator and Blade Runner. In the hardcore sci-fi genre I need more work though.
- last but not least, a massive interest of mine is music and its history. The genres I've bothered the most are
classic and progressive rock, 80's alternative rock, darkwave and heavy metal. In general I like somewhat experimental
music, rather than commercial. Lately I tend to love atmospheric dark music.
As for instruments, I play the synthesizer and the piano a little.

other not so geeky information: I love cats, read the newspaper, enjoy cycling and going to the gym.

Yeah, I was pretty sure you were just the average non-geek up to the last sentence, but the cat-thing sealed the deal my friend. You are one of us ;)

Welcome and enjoy. There's even the occassional cat fight here.

Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
