2011 Book Thread
« on: January 01, 2011, 10:16:18 PM »

Ok the new book thread is here.

List your goal and progress in this thread.  My goal for this year is 15.  That's what I wound up with in 2010 and I'm sure 2011 will be just as hectic...if not more so.  So make your goal and list your books here as you finish them.

By the way, every new post I make, I go to the last one and click "modify".  Then I copy it all and paste it into my new post and make the updates.  That way I don't have to redo the codes every time.

I'm going to say 25 novels. I will probably end up with more like 35... But just in case I get stuck on some slow starting fantasy epic I will stick to the safe 25.

I am currently on Jonathan Stroud's The Ring of Solomon. http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/jonathan-stroud/ring-of-solomon.htm

I'm basically filling in my time before George R R Martins next book with any fantasy I can find, and still have a lot of Terry Goodkind to get through, but I'm sure I'll of completed the whole series by June.

1.  Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton

Now:  Glass by Ellen Hopkins

I liked Pirate Latitudes.  But it was kind of one bad thing happening after another so you never really knew if the book was really over till it ended.  But it was something different and I liked it.

On to book two,
Red Dragon by Thomas Harris.

Good book.  I've been meaning to re-read Thomas Harris' earlier works.  That one was a real page turner, as I recall.

1.  Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton
2.  Glass by Ellen Hopkins

Now:  Empire by Orson Scott Card

OMG, Glass by Ellen Hopkins was sooooo depressing.  And I read the info on the next in the series and it all gets worse.  It's about a honors high school student who gets addicted to meth.  Well...the first book Crank started there and this was a continuation of the horror.  Really good though, I recommend.

BTW Demo, I did put your recommendations on my wishlist at paperbookswap.com.  But I just happened to have Empire here at home so I'll start there.

It does count if we've read them before right? Because I've read blue bear like 5 times before. It's just such a freaking awesome novel.

Yeah, I read that the year before last. He's pretty cool. I like the gritty autobiographies. But personally I find it to be quite pretentious based on how much he had. I've always liked more the stories of the rock stars like Sid Vicious. Who grew up in Heroin addict families and stuff like that. Hard case mental freaks. =p Nikki was just a rock star.

In some way I agree with you. The heroin diaries is a good book, but what I think is the best rockstar-biography has to be SLASH. I've read that book 14 times, and it still amazes me how he's survived it.

Try that book if you haven't already read it...

Since I'm such a chain reader, I don't ever set a goal.  So, I'll just maintain a list of what I read this year.

1.  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
2.  The Story of O by Pauline Reage
3.  Shards of Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold
4.  Barrayar by Lois McMaster Bujold
5.  The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
6.  Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
7.  Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
8.  The Scarpetta Factor by Patricia Cornwell
9.  Port Mortuary by Patricia Cornwell

Currently rereading I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max, because I really need a laugh right now.
