I'm a part of a scholarship group run by the dean of enrollment services for my university. At our last meeting the dean gave us a piece of paper entitled "One Word Project". We had until August 1st to complete it. Here it is August 2nd (technically) and I am about to dive in.
I thought bringing this to Teh Geekery could result in some hilarity, so here it is:
"
Reflect on your life, what you love, what you do, what you want the world to know about you. The key is to find one word and one word only that best captivates YOU. Find the deeper meaning behind your hobbies, interests, and studies. Vince likes to eat: his word is "YUMYUMYUMYUM." Shanice tries daily to speak out and get her voice heard: her word is "Activism." Ailsa constantly dreams of what is to come: her word is "Dreamer." Andrew has grown up with computers all his life and continues to work with them today: his word is "4E65726479."
"
Feel free to post your one word here. You can also post a small explanation of why you chose that word. As far as taking it seriously, it's your choice. Personally, I am going to use this opportunity to make it clear that I hate doing this kind of crap.
Try and pick one word without changing it later.
Oh, and I'll post my word later. I'm not sure what it is yet. Also, fuck Andrew. We all know a word is only 16 bits.

Dude!

Ok, that's not my word. I was just expressing my approval of this topic.
I will be thinking.
-
Quill.
-
So my word is "Person".
I essentially explained my dislike for something that demands information about me but then puts limitations on my answer. I figured person would show that.
Cop out? Maybe. I might have been able to come up with something better if I didn't loathe every minute of working on this.

"Guilt"
now that I think about it, this is better than "Fraud". I retain guilt like sponge does with water.

Sarcasm. No, really.

That rhymes with one of the words I was thinking of for myself.
-
Well, sort of rhymes.

Cat rhymes with That.

Yeah, I went through all of those. I'm using a dictionary attack to crack this sucker.

I hope it's not Greg.

*sharp intake of breath*

In a word, yes.
-
One word that best describes me? That's easy.

There are stereotypes for a reason. It's very noble to rally around "I don't believe in them" but you do. Even on a sub-conscience level.
Loyalty IS something you should feel 'confined' to because you would want your friends to be loyal to you.
Expectations? Those are good things. It means people see potential in you that will challenge you to be the best you can be instead of just another leech on society.
Other people will always confine you. You're confined, in a sense, by your love of family and friends, for example.
Don't take it so hard, it's all life and it doesn't get any easier.
