Feh
I'm not trying to drive anyone away. I just don't understand why, when you're communicating in an environment where you're only judged by your ability to communicate effectively, you'd want to purposely make an effort to look like you're not capable of doing so in a acceptable and intelligent manner.

If you can't show the existing regular forum users the respect of using proper punctuation, grammar and spelling, why should anyone bother to read anything that you have to say?

I suppose the whole 'give it a chance' schtick doesn't apply in this situation. You could argue that the member in question has had a chance to adopt and adapt to the forum, and refused. And you'd be right. So here goes:

PK, we'd all appreciate it if you tried a little harder to edit your posts. Don't necessarily scatter punctuation marks all over the place, but organize 'em a bit. Like BizB and Ivan have both pointed out, this forum has a standard that we all try and follow. If you can show us that you're able to communicate effectively, using proper grammar and punctuation, we're able to understand your posts and read them without wanting to tear out our hair. Not that we all tear out our hair, but I know some here who can't stand it. Period.

It's a small amount of effort on your part, and it would make things much easier for everyone around here. Personally, I think you've got something here, and you seem to have a good helping of merit in your posts. Don't let your lack of punctuation detract from the overall quality of your posts, y'follow? I wouldn't want that, and I doubt you do either.

So thanks, honestly, for making an effort. I appreciate it, and I know others around here do as well.

*snip*
Honestly, it's not that huge a deal for me. I am able to do so, but like many people, I do have a job and tend to post a lot from work (probably not the best idea, but there it is). Sometimes I get busy and caps, grammar and punctuation get overlooked so I've adapted to just leave it out since my long time forum haunts didn't really care.

My general lack of caps and punctuation has never been a problem previously, hence the reason I asked to be told if anything was a genuine problem. I'm a stranger here and won't be scared off THAT easily. I understand that something that may not be a problem at one place, where people know me and have known me for years, can be at another.

I do appreciate the serious comment made on this subject. Since we are posting on the internet it's hard to tell when someone is just joking and giving you a hard time and when someone means it. Forum "hostility" to newbies is nothing new to any board. Especially when it's not actually "hostility" in most cases but IS just someone just giving you a hard time in good fun.

So, I'll try to format my posts accordingly if you can try and let a few slips slide every now and then. ;)

So would this be sufficient for a kitten:

1 Qt. White Vinegar
1/2 Cup Mustard Seed
6 Each Whole Cloves
6 Each Whole Allspice
1/2 tsp Crushed Red Pepper
3 Fresh Bay Leaves
6 Whole Garlic Cloves
1/2 of a Medium Onion, Coarsely Chopped
1 Tbsp Kosher Salt
1 Tbsp Black Peppercorns
1 pinch Pink Meat Cure or Prague Powder

or what factor should I bring the brine up by?

Excellent response, pk.

We're not a bunch of grammarians around here, but most of us do appreciate a well-phrased post.  AOL speak is just something that rubs a lot of us the wrong way.  Personally, I'm more likely to read (and give proper consideration) to a post that appears to have sentences and paragraphs and follows the basic rules of spelling and grammar.

Oh, for the love of Bob... there's always one (Unless you're here.  Then, there's two or more.  If you're Somewhere Else, you're likely to find too many.)

Go with some Louisiana Hot Sauce in place of the crushed red pepper. You WON'T be disappointed. 3 days of refrigeration ought to do the trick. ;)

Is Somewhere Else a person or am I just reading into things?

In some cases Somewhere is a thing,

but it is often just around the corner

I have not yet met the person Somewhere, but I have high hopes.

Somewhere else is Something else however. So I have heard.

And after the conversation that's been taking place here, I am feeling more or less inadequate. But that happens to me a lot here

Well, hopefully you feel less inadequate. You're in pretty solid here, you know.
