Translated to read how it would actually sound if Jay was holding his tongue and saying that out loud:

Thee my tongue?  I'm howbing it.  Yeth, thith ith the new, impwoved Jay.  I will be nithe to the n00bth...I will be nithe to the n00bth...

Wewcome.

Care to share the details?  I actually know PHP...

Actually, it's not the version of PHP the server is running, per say, but this did make for an interesting read:

Quote
This happens when Squid makes a TCP connection to an origin server, but for some reason, the connection is closed before Squid reads any data. Depending on various factors, Squid may be able to retry the request again. If you see the ``Zero Sized Reply'' error message, it means that Squid was unable to retry, or that all retry attempts also failed.

What causes a connection to close prematurely? It could be a number of things, including:

1. An overloaded origin server.
2. TCP implementation/interoperability bugs.
3. Race conditions with HTTP persistent connections.
4. Buggy or misconfigured NAT boxes, firewalls, and load-balancers.
5. Denial of service attacks.

You may be able to use tcpdump to track down and observe the problem.

Some users believe the problem is caused by very large cookies. One user reports that his Zero Sized Reply problem went away when he told Internet Explorer to not accept third-party cookies.

Here are some things you can try to reduce the occurance of the Zero Sized Reply error:

1. Delete or rename your cookie file and configure your browser to prompt you before accepting any new cookies.
2. Disable HTTP persistent connections with the server_persistent_connections and client_persistent_connections directives.
3. Disable any advanced TCP features on the Squid system. Disable ECN on Linux with echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_ecn/.

Huh.  That's pretty interesting.  But, I am more the coding type of guy.  I try to avoid server stuff. ;)

does anyone know any kewl science projects i could try?[/shadow][/glow]

I have one, but it will take some care to properly implement. I will break it down step by step:

Step 1: Click here. You will see a post containing this:

Quote
does anyone know any kewl science projects i could try?[/shadow][/glow]

Step 2: At the top right corner of that post, click on the "Modify" hotlink. An editing textbox will open, containing the following text:

Code: [Select]
[glow=red,2,300][shadow=red,left][move]does anyone know any kewl science projects i could try?[/move][/shadow][/glow]

Step 3: Using keys found on any standard QWERTY keyboard, make changes to the displayed text, as follows:

  • Highlight the first 39 (thirty-nine) characters, from the initial opening square bracket, to the closing square bracket after the word "color". When the text is correctly highlighted, press the DEL key on your keyboard 1 (one) time. This should remove the highlighted characters. ALTERNATE APPROACH: Place the cursor before the initial character, and press the DEL key in rapid succession 39 (thirty-nine) times. If correcly implemented, the initial character of the displayed string will now be the "d" in the word "does".
  • Press the DEL key 1 (one) time. Without moving the cursor, depress the SHIFT key. Keeping the SHIFT key in the depressed state, use a different finger to press the "D" key 1 (one) time. Release the SHIFT key.
  • Move the cursor, placing it before the "k" of the word substring "kewl". You can achieve this either by pressing the right-arrow key 20 (twenty) times, or by positioning the cursor using your mouse device.
  • Press the DEL key 4 (four) times.
  • Press the "C" key 1 (one) time.
  • Press the "O" key 2 (two) times.
  • Press the "L" key 1 (one) time.
  • Reposition the cursor 18 (eighteen) characters to the right, using whatever method you prefer.
  • Press the DEL key 1 (one) time.
  • Depress the SHIFT key and, without releasing it, press the "I" key 1 (one) time. Release the SHIFT key.
  • Reposition the cursor 11 characters to the right, after the question mark.
  • Depress the SHIFT key and, without releasing it, press the END key. Release the SHIFT key.
  • Press the DEL key 1 (one) time.

Step 4: Underneath the editing textbox, you will see a "Preview" button. Click it. PRO TIP: The Preview button is a very useful tool that can be used in all subsequent experiments of this nature! The same editing textbox will be redisplayed, and above it you will see a representation of what the formatted text will look like when you "go live". If the formatted text appears to be correct (see example below), proceed to Step 5. If not, close all windows and start over at Step 1.

Step 5: Underneath the editing textbox, you will see a "Save" button. Click it. Depending of your profile settings, the revised post will be displayed. It should look like this:

Quote
Does anyone know any cool science projects I could try?

This concludes today's experiment. It may be a challenge at first, but with practice you can master the techniques involved.
