Which version of VB?

Funny, when I read about how you were "taught how to take a computer apart and work around inside of it," I flashed back to 9th grade, Moscow PS 76, where I was taught how to take apart an AK-47, clean it, and put it back together. Blindfolded. You know, just in case the Imperialists attacked at night.

Oh ivan, this made me giggle.

Jeez you crazy Americans, our high school computer programming course consisted of students building computer replicas out of cereal and tissue boxes.

Poor? Free Health Care? No current war going on? No George W. Bush? Face it, honey, you've had it pretty damn good.

US = Gondor
Canada = Shire

Maybe only Demo and a couple others will get the analogy but it is apt. Apt, I say!

My point was actually that this idiot is acting like Canada's got it right while US has it wrong somehow. Which may be true, but Canada only gets to enjoy its quaint, pastoral lifestyle because there are a bunch of American Dunedan running around in the woods along their border, slitting orc throats and fighting wars against the witch-king in far away lands. Sometimes the river freezes over and Goblins rush in, and they have to deal with it. Sometimes Gondor asks for a donation of canadian archers to fight against the Taliban in the Battle of Fornost. But for the most part, Canada gets to enjoy the security that comes with having a big, strong neighbor without having to get their hands too dirty very often.
But, uh, you guys all make good points too.

And as for the free health care thing: nothing is free. It's called TAXES. And many places that have what you would call "free health care" are so b/c of very high taxes (compared to the U.S.).

http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/healthcare/priceofcare.html

"At the high end of the scale is the United States, which spent 14.6 per cent of GDP on health care."

I didn't realize it was that high. I'm not too sure how the intricacies of the US economy work, but I know the GDP is made up of different factors (so it could be b/c of that), and it might also have to do with all the private insurance companies too (of which I know nothing about outside the U.S.). Hmm.

It's true the US Healthcare system is fucked.  State governments set up anti-competitive barriers to entry.  The insurance companies are about as transparent as the wall of a bank vault.  The healthcare bill won't solve any of this.  yada yada yada.  Still the best example is the hairy feet.
