Overheard at my gaming table...
« on: August 16, 2004, 02:56:46 PM »

This happened on Saturday.

My brother-in-law Chad was playing his HackMaster character, by the name of Endegar.  Endegar is a cleric of the god of light.

My cousin Trav was playing a triple class Fighter/Magic-User/Thief, named Valador.

They had just walked into an abandoned keep rumored to be the lair of a colony of ghouls.

Valador:  (hands Endegar a torch) Here.  Light this.

Endegar: (casts light spell on it, causing the torch to glow brightly in a 20' radius)

Valador:  :?  Uhhhhh.... that's not really what I meant.

What's with you and fabrication today, detta?  i'd actually believe this one, having been in a group where someone actually repelled down into a pit trap to retrieve the clothes off of a warrior/mage character, and leave the unconcious body to die.

That's a little bit messed up. Was it a party member in both cases?

I'm guessing there was a lot of glaring and stony silences going on at the gaming table that night.

I love those.  My brother-in-law used to agonize over his magic-user, because he'd always find himself unable to do anything because the brutes in the party were always charging into combat.

Until the day I pointed out that his magic-user (a female Drow of 10th level) was Chaotic Evil and she didn't technically need to give them fair warning as far as her code of ethics went.

The next combat they were in, he blasted the hell out of them.  They always checked with her first after that, before charging in.

Moral of the story:  it's always good to coordinate your tactics with spellcasters in the party.  Doubly so when they don't care about your safety.

I find people rarely play Chaotic Evil properly. Maybe it's because most GMs don't allow PCs to choose it and they don't get enough practise?

D&D
« Reply #17 on: August 27, 2004, 03:06:54 AM »

Funny stuff usually happened when I was playing D&D with friends, but the problem now is finding people to play with, as I moved back to Boston this summer, and all of those friends were when I moved to Hawaii for junior year of high school. Anyone know people in Boston who want to play D&D or EQ: Role Playing, I'm considering converting my brother and his friends into the game, almost like a geek missionary.

D&D?  I hope there's not a d20 logo attached there.  You should play a real game.  Like Hackmaster.

You guys are mean. ;-)

D&D is a perfectly acceptable system to get people interested in RolePlaying with. Not my choice either, but it's still ok.

Well, AD&D or the original "basic" D&D.

3rd Ed is ok if you've never played anything else. Makes for fun computer games too. Other than that, like I said, pick something else if you can.
