Oil on canvas
« on: May 20, 2008, 04:13:08 AM »

Well, this is my first completed attempt at painting oil on canvas. I made a couple mistakes, but I think overall it's pretty good.

Once I get it in the frame I'm making, I think it'll look even better.  :-)

I don't think it needs a frame. Good job! It's beautiful!

Very nice. The detail in the foreground tree is awesome.

Both my father and younger brother can paint, I however have the artistic talents of a flatworm.

That makes me think of Monet, in style.  Is that what you were going for?

uhh.... yeah... that's it. That's exactly what I was going for  :w:

Truth be told, I was just going for painting a picture using whatever style came out of my brush. But hey, if it looks like a Monet, I guess that's a happy accident.

The only thing I would try to fix would be the shoreline on the far bank being visible through this side of the tree branches.   :-D

Although that may just be the texture showing up in the photo.

I know, I know.  Everybody's a critic.

I might go back and try to fix that some... I'm not sure I can do much, but we'll see

That is lovely.  I can't add much else that hasn't already been said.
Li Bai's poem suits the painting, did you already have it in mind while painting?
I third the happy tree comments.

Yes, the poem inspired the whole work.

Well that's easy. All you have to do is move to Texas, become friends with me and all my friends, then marry me, then murder me in my sleep, and at the funeral be all in tears (eye drops will work) and ask my friend who I gave it to to give it to you because it's how you want to remember me. Move back to Canada, and voila... one painting for your room easy peasy.

Or you could commission a painting.
artists still do commissions, right?
No?
Well then, yeah, get to murderin'

Ugh... to Texas? I'd do everything else, and I'd probably do it well, but I don't think I could live in Texas.

Texas murdering has been done; over and over. You guys should meet up in South Dakota. Now THAT would be a murder worth the effort of reading about.
