Hey does anybody here work for a hosting company perchance? I'm finally getting around to coding for my domain name and am starting to look for a host. It'd be awesome if somebody I know works for/owns one but barring that does anyone know a company that is reasonably cheap and reliable?

I don't work for them, but I can suggest www.hostforweb.com  They host my 3 sites and a friend of mine just moved many of his sites there on my recommendation.  I have the $9.95/month plan which allows me to host up to 6 different domains in a really convenient/easy configuration.

If you decide to go with them, put me in as a referrer and I'll get some free months of hosting, too.  (referrer username bizbbiz)

I used to do hosting, but not anymore. I use Axis Host. I’ve used them for about 8 months with zero downtime and they’ve yet to complain about any of my resource hog sites (first thing I do when I add any account is to up the php memory limit to at least 20 megs). My only complaint is the rather low amount of disk space, but most sites don't need much drive space unless they're hosting video files (and in those cases, they'd probably be better off using something like revver to host the files).

I use Netfirms. I've got the "Advantage" plan. I'm happy with it.

That actualy sounds okay, the only annoying bit looks like the 99.5% uptime, but that's decent. I may go with them.

I use Insider Hosting. I've been with them for about 5 years now and they've been great since the get go. Their support is great too. I can even get in direct contact with the owner if need be.

I use Globat for my web hosting.

They're cheap.  And they're fine, as long as speed, reliability, or speed aren't important to you.

Maybe I should start offering hosting for discounted rates for members of the forum. Maybe this way I could warrent getting that dedicated server I've always wanted in their data center.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about that company. In fact, its sister company, HTTPMe.com, was my first choice for shared hosting (unfortunately they didn’t accept paypal). It is good to know that they are as reliable as I had heard. Hosting is a volatile industry and I’ve found it pays to keep a list of good host incase you have to move suddenly.

I would certainly be interested in that.

I used to work for GoDaddy.com.  They do both shared and dedicated hosting, and I believe you can choose whether you want to use Linux or Windows.  Their rates are good, and I can say that their customer service is excellent.  There were a lot of things I didn't like about them, but tto their credit, they do try very hard to have top notch customer service.

I registered my domain name with them. It's a good idea how they get free advertising until I find a host too, I wish I'd thought of that.
