Yeah that's actually a good point for Gandalf, especially if you take into account the fact that Walter turns out to be really lame in Dark Tower VII, in one of the very few bits of Dark Tower that I though majorly sucked.

Flagg, definitely.  Grandfather Vampires are powerful, but they're one-trick-ponies.  RF was a lot more versatile and clever than that.

It wouldn't suprise me to find Flagg using Barlow in a scheme in the short term, they'd probably get along famously until Flagg didn't need him anymore then he'd get the boot. Don't forget that Barlow got staked by a writer in his sleep, while it took the hand of god setting off a nuclear weapon in the desert to take out Randall, and even then he wasn't finished (can't remember if that bit is only in the Stand extended edition or not).
