Title: Singer/songwriter suggestions?
Post by: abortretryfail on June 21, 2005, 01:30:00 PM
Ok, I've been listening to nothing but electronic music for about six years now and it's time to branch out.  I'm looking for recommendations for male/singer songwriters, I like the melancholy sound the best.  Two I've discovered so far are Jeff Bucklet and Rufus Wainwright.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hey, why not?  Both are forward thinking, both are fairly creative, and they're both Canadian.

Right?

Bob Dylan.

Right now I'm really digging Mike Park's acoustic album.  Good stuff.  Plus you can never go wrong with the Man In Black.

Speaking of musically inclined forward thinking, creative Canadians...

Guys, guys, he said melancholy.

But no more apologies
No more apologies
Oh, I’m too tired
I’m so sick and tired
And I’m feeling very sick and ill today.

But I’m still fond of you...

oh-ho-hoh

And Johnny Marr's riff at the end of  What Difference... haunts me still...

Cool, I looked for online clips to listen to for Mike Park but didn't find any, do you know of any?

I've been listening to a lot of EELS lately.  It may be up your alley.

I'm enjoying Mike Park a bunch, thanks for the suggestion, pbsaurus.  Checking out EELS too.  Found a really good artist over the weekend, name's Richard Swift.  Anyone heard of him?  Here's his site and clips:

I got drunk with him once. I'd start with Heartbreaker or Gold, but hard to go wrong with any.

Way to clarify...

No, abortretryfail, he means Ryan Adams.

I'd agree on Ryan Adams, and add Bright Eyes, Damien Rice, Devendra Banhart, M. Ward, Elliott Smith, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, Nick Drake, Badly Drawn Boy, Fiona Apple, Paul Westerberg... ok, that's enough.
