Title: 2 Sides...
Post by: Arnox on April 06, 2010, 09:32:54 PM
Whenever I see a topic or news article or what have you on government or business actions and/or regulations, I always seem to see 2 major sides of the issue.

First, you have the governments/businesses side of the story saying how what they're doing actually makes common sense and that we need this regulation or rule or that the judgment passed on a criminal is just.

But then, when I see people's opinions on other such forums, on the topics discussed above, the opinons and arguments are opposite. The government is trying to control our lives and that we shouldn't be such tools listening to them and join the right side.

But which side should one take? Most of the time, both present compelling and convincing arguments and it's hard to choose on which side to take.

But what do you guys think of all this?

There are never just two sides.  That's what they want you to believe.  Everything is multivariate and requires lengthy analysis.  The talking heads have conditioned you into thinking that everything can be reduced to a five second sound byte, but that is just not so.  There are not just two parties, there are not just pro and con, it just isn't that simple.

 That. That's a near-perfect explanation there.

What it will always boil down to (should, anyway) is your personal take on the subject AFTER you've researched the entire issue; sans "sides". Almost anything can be argued for, as well as argued against. Run devil_advocate.exe on all sides of each issue before you formulate your own opinion. Never take an answer for an answer. Preheat to 350 degrees. Form patties with mix and place on foil. Serves eight.

When it comes to the gubment, you should always ask yourself "what's the worst way they could abuse this?".

I'm taking pbSaurus' side on this issue, because the other side is wrong.

And my side is directly from Earl Ray so you know it's cubic.

I can't remember if, on this issue, I'm black or if I'm white.

As long as you're not Norm from Cheers, you're good.

Remember, I said two MAJOR sides. I didn't say that there weren't other points of view. But yes, I definitely agree that one must consider both sides at all times. My complaint, however, is that it is sometimes hard to see the real truth. But this is just one of those things in life that we will always deal with so I guess one can't always know the truth.

Quit using both two and other linear words.  Hell even the human mind thinks in three dimensions.  Right or left is meaningless when it comes to politics.  It's not that simple.  Even look at the Libertarian planar representation.  They at least give a y axis.  But really we need a z axis and probably a brazilian other axes if we were to do a proper analysis.  Stupid humans.

I didn't know an axis could be Brazilian.

I thought they all came from El Salvador.

On Topic: Looking at the two MAJOR sides is narrow minded and stupid. Just because a side is minor does not justify ignoring its presence. Who knows, you might find the truth in one of those other minor sides.

Not to mention the two "major" sides are usually saying the same stupid shit.

Oh, and everything else everyone else said.

Interesting topic.  I think the role and government and the people who elect the government has reversed. More and more it feels as though the people work for the government and not the other way around.

Sounds normal.

Who the hell are you anyway and why don't you have an intro thread?
