Chicks riding horses is even better, especially when it's your horse.

I don't get it, if it's such a shitty book, why would you continue to read it? That's like watching a movie on TV that you hate; You can easily change the channel, but for some reason you're compelled to watch this one movie that you hate.

Then again, I suppose if your job is to review movies and/or books, you'd be forced to watch or read something that you hate.

So no, I haven't read it, nor have I heard of it up until this moment in time. I rarely find myself reading something that isn't a manual on how something works, or a book on a programming language.

I'm currently reading Marshall Brain's More How Stuff Works. A book that I think any Geek would enjoy.

Anarchy / Flash Chat has Arrived
« on: January 11, 2006, 07:28:26 PM »
I recently purchased the domain geekchatroom.com. I thought it would be a good way for you guys to kill time while you're at work without access to major IM clients, at home secluding yourselves from society, or just being anti-social in general.

The chat plays well with phpBB, and as a result no registration is needed, so as long as you have an account on The Geek Forums. I thought this was important because I know from experience it's a pain in the ass having 10 passwords for one site.

There's still some work to be done, namely designing the site itself. However, the script must reside on this domain in order for it to work properly with phpBB, which I believe is a small price to pay.

If you wish to join the chat, clack here.

The majority of Norton products are, in my opinion, bloated sacks of code. The only thing I use of theirs it the Anti-Virus corporate edition. It's lightweight and seems to be able to catch most anything out there.

Not if you're like my place of work. We have Norton 2004, which is probably alright, just the fact that the definitions are from 2004 as well can't be helpful.

Here is a good read. I pulled this URL from the latest moron who decided to sign up here in hopes that people will go to his site. Well, it actually worked, only because it's so damn funny.  :D

The best part is that it doesn't make sense.

I've seen that on Think Geek, though I don't think it's very practical. I'd be too worred about accidently messing up the thumb drive attached to the rest of the knife to really use it.

Is it a cause for concern?

That's pretty geeky, I must say. I have a 512mb thumb drive as well, but I don't really use it that often because I too don't go to places that normally have computers.

I keep it as a backup while on campus just incase I can't login to my home network while at school. This way I'm not totally SOL if my connection goes down.

Today I did see a bunch of guys walking around with RSA Smart Cards hanging from their necks... now that's pretty geeky.

I know we have a thread about this around here somewhere (here) I would like to add on to this list, and eventually publish an article on The Geekery about popular alternatives to programs that people commonly use, but get ripped off on.

Here's one from me, though I am not sure if there is a widely used program out there like this:

Look@Lan

This program is great for people who have small business networks, or those who want to keep track of what IP addresses are connected to your network. This program can also send you an email if a host goes offline.

I actually have a forwarder set on my webserver to forward any email sent to that specific address to be sent to my cell phone so I can know ASAP when something goes wrong. This program is a must for network administrators.

Oh, and then there's the obvious "Use Linux instead of Windows" which I will mention here:

Linux instead of Windows.

There. Glad I got that out of the way.

I have that same KVM. The hot key is the Scroll Lock key, followed by either the up or the down arrow(s).

I used T-Mobile for about a year. I could only use the phone service when I was outside. Forget about using it while in my house, place of work, or in a car.

In a nut shell, T Mobile sucks.

I don't think playing music really loud on the night of the State of the Union Address will do anything. I'm pretty sure we're just going to have to wait it out.

The only thing I keep asking myself is, "Why the fuck did anyone vote for him again?"

You have a lot of shit running that I have never seen before. You might want to get ride of some of the programs that are currently running. All of that shit running at one time would even make a Cray system run like a fat man.

I have no complaints about my 17 inch flatscreen. The main reasons I got mine two years ago was the fact that they take up less space, as well as give off less heat.
