What to rent
« on: October 02, 2006, 05:14:48 PM »

http://www.whattorent.com

I got some interesting suggestions from it, some of which I had never heard of, but others that were movies that I either have seen and definitely liked, or ones that I've been meaning to see.

It's worth a look.

I joined and it keeps telling me to watch movies I've already seen a thousand times, like Jackie Brown, the Big Lebowski, and Dogma. GIVE ME A MOVIE I HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE!!!

That's supposed to be a good sign that it accurately picked your tastes.

That's supposed to be a good sign that it accurately picked your tastes.

But the point of the site is to direct you towards movies you haven't seen yet that you should rent.  Why am I going to rent a movie I already saw? If I liked it and I want to watch it again, then I'll buy it. If I didn't like it, I'm not paying $3.50 to see it again.

So this site is not fulfilling its purpose in my case.

The point is that they are accurately guessing what your tastes are, so while they may keep coming upon movies you've already seen (Again, showing the ACCURACY of their selections), they should eventually be coming to things you haven't. Because you've seen how accurate they are, you could probably be sure the movie is good.

Also, I believe they said their database is still expanding.

The site is called "WHAT TO RENT." I still have nothing to rent. They have failed me.

Good find Demo. I was tinkering with it last night, had some fun. Still no concrete results for me either.
