Will it ever end? Maybe they need to jack up prices on CDs, DVDs, and other forms of media in order to bolster sales.

What a load of bull shiv. The MPAA has got to be stopped, and I'm afraid that this judge (who I'm sure counted Ted Stevens' speech about tube cloggage seriously) is exactly the wrong person to do it. Old people in general just plain don't know shit about the interwebs, and something has to be done to either get them up to speed or get somebody qualified to make decisions about such matters in charge.

I'm glad I'm safe beyond the border, so the MPAA can suck my nuts for the time being, I'm still seeding most of my stuff until I reach my bandwidth limit again.

I believe that there are actually harsher measures in Canada, including a CD Tax.

I don't think it's as bad over here, but apparently a few 'serial uploaders' who share large amounts of music have been taken to court.

Yes, because the studios have resolutely decided to NOT get with the times. They could make ten times more profit if they would employ some common sense and conduct business in an up-to-date fashion. They have two perfect business models already; Netflix and Vongo. One is hard copy, the other is downloads; both PAID FOR. I cannot for the life of me understand why the RIAA and cohorts don't seem to "get it".

Because they're greedy jackasses who can't stand to see that times are changing and their monopoly is no longer entirely possible, so they're working their fat asses off to demonize anyone who pulls a fast one on them before it's too late.

CrystalMonkey: That CD tax doesn't affect people who don't buy CDs (they degrade inside two years anyway), and even if I did it's a lot less than the lawsuit that I'd be surely facing if the RIAA or MPAA were able to get at me.

It would be something if there was could be a serious boycott, if NO-one bought their crap for a month ... or more ... Hell, there is allways radio.

Kind-of-sort-of a Boston tea party, but crank it way up several notches. Swear off buying music until the beast is dead.

Just say "Fuck-em"... and mean it.

Buy used.  That's what I do.  I haven't bought a new CD from an RIAA-affiliated label in I-don't-even-have-a-guess-how-long.

They do NOT get money from me from music purchases.  Period.

All my CDs were bought used, I'm sure it pisses them off more than anything that somebody else can make back some (or even more) of the money they got from the RIAA and there's no way to get their greedy mitts in it.

I'll give it five years before they try and stop music re-sale.

Thinking about this, how is information from a torrent provider going to help them?  That'll only give them a list of people who downloaded torrent files, which - in itself - can't be illegal.

Unless they're only going after the people who initially seed torrents that is. =/
