Mystery Science Theatre 3000
« on: February 23, 2010, 09:38:44 AM »

I love this show! So I've decided to mention it cause I couldn't find anyone else who had already. My proposal is a top 3 for everyone who cares to, this way anyone who's curious about it will know where to start :)
Here's a link to a site with all the episodes.
http://tv.blinkx.com/show/mystery-science-theater-3000/1z6OdI9ACH-bUmka

These are my fav 3-
3. "Manos" the Hands of Fate
2. The Final Sacrifice
1. PUMAMAN!

For the love of buttons watch Pumaman! Its hilarity at its finest.

I own the Manos one on VHS.

Do we really have to debate the merits of Joe v. Mike? Both of them have their respective strengths...

I just happen to be in love with Mike.

I think in most cases it depends on who you saw first. My friend saw Mike first cause I showed her Pumaman and I started watching from the beginning. I love that look Joel gives the camera in the opening. That's what angels look like to me :D
Not excessive!

But yeah Mike's pretty great too. I love that he came in to the show before Joel left unlike most shows where they just decide to switch the character inbetween episodes and hope no one notices.

Well, I'm shamelessly acquisitive when it comes to MST3K, although I've been focusing on the new stuff lately. Next time CT swings around the LA area again, I will try my damndest to attend.

Lacerda, have you checked out Mike's latest stuff? I've read rave reviews from fans, but by some odd coincidence they were all Mike lovers.

Oh, and my favourite one is Fugitive Alien 2.

HE TRIED TO KILL HIM WITH A FORKLIFT!

(Yes, I know the forklift scene is in Fugitive Alien 1, but the call-back in FA2 is what slays me.)

Yeah Mike was around a whole lot longer than Joel so it's easy to understand where that went. I haven't watched Fugitive Alien yet...in fact I don't think i've even noticed that episode yet. But that'll be my movie for tonight!

Demosthenes knows about the long long ago?

You people watch too much TV.  I was one back in the before MST time.  I've seen many of the episodes, but not all, and certainly not many times each.  I'm the one who didn't notice there was a switch.  White guys all look the same to me.

Anyway, if you want to talk about TV obsessions, we could always do Mr. Ed or My favourite Martian.  Hell we could even do Partridge Family.

I know about Mr.Ed vaguely. But the other two? Sorry I think I wasted most of my childhood with Sailor Moon and Inspector nosehair clipper.

I have! I actually *bought* his riff on the original Night of the Living Dead!

Rifftrax have been pretty amazing, but syncing them is a little annoying, so I've been downloading people's mixes.  :|

Demosthenes knows about the long long ago?

Indeed.  Yea, verily, I was a member of the original MST3K fan club, back when it was on local independent TV station, KTMA TV-23.  I even got a tour of the original studio during a taping of one of the earlier, unsyndicated episodes, during which I got to meet Joel.

One of these days I'm going to have to get around to scanning my beat-up old fan club membership card.  Yes, I still have it.  It's seen better days, but it's still legible.

Ok, my scanner isn't functional at the moment.  But for your viewing pleasure, here is a blurry picture of this beaten up, 21 year old MST3K fan club card that I just took with my phone.

That's right.  I'm member # 436.  Ph34r.

I should also mention that the "season zero" episode that they were taping when I got my studio tour was "Gamera versus Guiron".  If you haven't seen that one, watch it, and all of the Gamera episodes.  They simply don't make 'em like that anymore.  And, if you think about it, they never really did.
