Clash of the Titans Plot Hole???
« on: June 25, 2011, 12:39:34 AM »

I can't remember if I posted this question before, and I'm just too lazy to search for it.

The Clash of the Titans remake...

Io tells Perseus that the head of Medusa will kill anything made of flesh.  Earlier in the film, the Kraken is referred to as a "colossal elemental beast".  As we all know, the plan works.  Perseus turns the Kraken to stone by making it look at Medusa's head.  HOW THE FUCK DID THAT WORK!?!?!?

Am I missing something here?  If it's elemental then it's definitely not made of flesh.  Right?

Also, I can't be the only geek who noticed this.  And yet, I can't find a single thing about this particular plot hole in my extensive Googles...and it's the biggest plot hole in the movie, assuming I'm right about the flesh/elemental thing of course.

Maybe it was a situation like this:

I do not recall a Kraken in the story of Medusa.
Then again, I don't recall a lot of things about that book.
I thought it was boring.
But then, I was an angry teenager back then.
Maybe I should read it again.

I like graphs.

To what book are you referring?

I'm talking about the cheesy ass remake of the cheesy ass original (circa 1980s) movie.

And there would be no Kraken in the Medusa stories because the Kraken acutally comes from Norse mythology.  I'm just letting that one go in terms of plot holes.

I had to read Greek mythology for high school. The only part of any of them that I liked was the story of Medusa. I avoided the cheesy ass movie because I didn't want to see my favourite part of Greek mythology fucked up. When I heard the Kraken was in it, I avoided the cheesy ass movie with extreme prejudice.
Did I leave that sarcasm flag somewhere?

Better than an ass-cheese movie.  I hadn't seen either movie, nor remember much of the Medussa story from my schooling.

Yeah, that movie was full of plot holes.

1. If memory serves (yes I love Iron Chef) The Kraken wasn't really the monster from the Perseus myth. It was just a sea monster, Cetus.

2. Also, when the Stygian Witches find out what Perseus want's Medusa's head for, they say "A Titan against a Titan". Well...actually, Medusa is arguably a Titan because she was a descendant of Gaia, the original "Titan", but the Kraken/sea monster isn't a Titan. It's just a sea monster.

So there really is no "Clash of the Titans" hence that film should be destroyed, and it's name should be stricken from IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.

So let it be written, so let it be done.
