Title: New Host
Post by: Anonymous on July 16, 2002, 01:41:17 PM
With the recent fall of my host's main page (http://www.cyberwings.com), and various other servers going down for three weeks and still no word on what happened to them, or when they are going to be back up and running, I think I am going to switch hosts because of their inability to manage these sorts of things.

I have had no problems with them what-so-ever, however, I do not feel "secure" hosting my site on a host that pretty much "lost" or "forgot" about a few of its servers, as well as their main page, and have not bothered to let their effected customers know about the situation.

I plan on moving to ePerfect.net (http://www.eperfect.net/eperfect/index.shtml), as I have not heard or read anything bad about them at this time. The look of their site is profesional, pricing is not that bad, their sites load fast, and it looks to me that in their forums they provide pretty good customer support.

I'll probably make this change sometime within the next week when I get the money to do so. I have to come up with around 70 dollars in order to pay for the first quarter. (It's less hassle for me to pay them every 3 months, rather than all at once, or once every month.) Downtime on the site should be very little, if any, as I'm just going to take everything from the old server, put it on to my computer, and then re-upload it to the new site, hoping that it still works. The only thing that might need some "pampering" is News Pro when I have to reset the server paths that it uses, really no big deal for viewers.

Thanks to phpBB using a database, it will be easy for me to switch hosts, all I have to do is export the database into a file along with the structure and data of all the tables, and the dump it in the new database server. iKonboard would have been hell to switch over like that.

Well then that would be why my friend Joel had a hard ass time getting cyberwings to host his site, which by the way is still not working.

Great, can't wait!

Uh, Chris... why isn't my sig showing up when I make posts anymore?

Uh... your sig show up. I know I didn't do anything to your settings or the board.

One thing that you might want to see is if it's the theme that you're using. I noticed that on the other two different ones there are some things missing such as an "Edit" button. The theme might not automatically include your sig, and you just might have to select "show my signature in this post" OR it might not work for that DarkSide theme all together.

Feh.  Whine, whine, whine!

What's wrong with being a "Lamer"?

BTW, this is a test to see if my siggy works in another setting besides "darkside".

See Lacerda?  As long as you act like your title, everything's fun again!

It's a pleasant lack of pressure to only have to live up to "Lamer" standards!  ;)

I know it would work. I don't know why some of the themes are messed up like that, PHP Nuke (http://www.phpnuke.net) is like that as well. They have about 100+ themes for it, and a lot of them have some flaws in them that don't allow everything to be displayed right.

It must be that the server is ratarded.

Now... this would be a lot "funner" if there were more people, I need to whipe up some advertising schemes to get people in here and posting stuff. Maybe I should try a porn forum, that should attract a lot of kiddies.

Better yet, if I made a forum that's just "Avril Lavigne Naked", man, that would draw so many people to it, it wouldn't be funny.

(watch how many people visit this thread after a few engines spider this page thanks to Avril Lavigne Naked)

I wasn't whining anyway, I was complaining. Which, I suppose, is what whining is before it becomes constant...
 :P

I think we should give Demosthenes a custom title.

Maybe a custom title such as "Avril Lavigne Naked"?

There's got to be better out there though...

"Jerkass" would be fine by me.  Or "Punkhead".

Ooooh... "Cleaner" would work for me.  You know, in the Harvey Keitel sense of the word....

The change was made. Not fast enough obviously. Cyberwings' servers at the Rack Shack down in Texas got their plugs pulled on Friday morning, and are still down now. I was going to make an entire backup that morning when I got up from sleeping, but much to my surprise it was too late! Some of the stuff was lost, while others were not - such as the SQL data for this forum, and some of the older posts on the main page given I had it cached. Actually, I only saved my recent one since I didn't know the login information for the other names to go in and post it under their names. (You can do that if you had access to the main page materia and still have your work saved... Lacerda... LFD...)

The site is now hosted on Insiderhosting.com (http://www.insiderhosting.com)'s servers, and is quite fast now. I also have www.pornorefic.com going now, as well as two other sites under my same account. For 15 dollars a month I'd reccomend them to anyone. They got my account setup with 10 minutes... and it was a real person, too!

Heh... I had the same problem with the sig too Demo.  It just didn't add up until I talked to Chris.

Oh well... it's fixed now.  Now I can complain about other stuff.
