I like Matt Damon, but not as Captain Kirk.

you would think they would TRY to find someone who looked like william shatner 50 years ago... like they did for patrick stewart for nemisis, they said they went through god only knows how many people to find someone that kinda looked like him AND act.

matt damon looks nothing like shatner

Plus Shatner never could act.

:bolts

But he is the only Kirk.

.

i agree... in my eyes, he is probably the most successful, untalented man in the world.

i tried to read one of his book before... it was horrible, and half the times, the story strayed... needless to say, i never finished it

but he was capt. kirk, and still, the only one.

I disagree. Shatner is actually more actor than we usually get on TV. Trained as a classical Shakespearean actor. Solid credentials and very good early track record. The campiness of the Kirk role is there because the whole show was camp. Shatner injected it with something worthwhile and very much needed. Imagine the series without him -- it wouldn't work on any level. Watch him closely with new eyes -- he is so frikken in the moment. He created that character. He gave Kirk life. If that isn't good acting, then what is? Also, if what Brando does is "acting", then so is what Shatner does.

Dude.  It takes talent to be able to act in a foreign language (http://imdb.com/title/tt0059311/)

I guess you're right pb.  Kirk did do that scene in Klingon in ST:III while standing on the planet that was erupting under his feet.

They should do something to revive Star Trek but having someone else play Kirk is a bad idea.  Shatner is Kirk and Kirk is Shatner.

They would need to get someone to get the book worm side of Kirk. He didn't turn in the the out going, womanising, shoot first, captin we all know and love untill after he had been in SF for a while.

Picard is, and always will be the king of startrek. I could see Rowan Atkinson as the new Captain. He has a face for radio.

Last I had heard, Bryan Singer and Chris Nolan had both expressed interest.  Personally I'd like to see movie involving the entire Trek Universe, TNG to DS9.  Even the Dr. from Voyager (the rest of them can rot in hell for all I care).  But sweet tap dancing zombie Jesus, don't re-tread old ground with the tired Kirk shite.  Let the character die.  Maybe they could even Ultimize the Trek 'verse.  That could be cool...

May the creative team behind Voyager die of fin-rot and burn in hell.

I think you probably heard that they would consider asking Matt Damon to do the part of Kirk. It isn't something a decent casting director would do to actually cast him as Kirk, nor do I think he'd be all too interested.

As for Rowan Atkinson playing Picard, that would be interesting. But he holds a special place in my heart as Blackadder.

I think if they're going to make another Trek movie, then it should be true to the series. Bring Shatner back and have the movie be like "Forty years later and they're still stuck in space." There can be no other Kirk.

My...God, Matt Damon really is...

Kirk.

Can someone please tell me why he's the only actor being credited as cast?

I really dont have a problem with Matt Damon. And after looking at some pictures of him, I think he cloud pull off a young Kirk.

You know who I really liked on Star Trek? Alan Ruck as Harriman. He probably won't be in the movie, though...

How right you are!

Ben Affleck is to movies as Lance Bass is to music; he has no talent and sooner or later he'll turn out to be gay.

although lance has at least some semblance of grey matter in that pretty skull of his...  Ben Afflek just needs to take his lemming-like teenie-bopper following, and jump into a river somewhere in alaska.

and they need to take every goddamned copy of Gigli with them.

As a Jersian born and raised, and as a huge Kevin Smith fan, I was thoroughly disappointed that Kevin Smith would consort with Ben Affleck, and even more so that his folly forced Ben Affleck upon George Carlin, who is a man so fucking awesome that he should never have had to come into contact with such a douchenozzle as Affleck.

It's kind of like when you're friend sucks at something, but you make him do it anyway just to see him fail as laugh your ass off.  After all, Smith has always said it's just about making movies with his friends.

Why would he be friends with an asshat like Ben Affleck? Adam Sandler likes making movies with his friends, too, but he doesn't go putting Ben Affleck in them.

Affleck used to crash on Smith's couch before he hit the big time.  I think they met before Mallrats (hence why Affleck is the main villian in said film).  He explains it all in "An Evening With Kevin Smith" (available wherever trashy DVD are sold), and in the book "Silent Bob Speaks" (I got a signed copy off ViewAskiew.com for $20, but they may be gone by now).

So then what does everyone think of Affleck playing George Reeves in Hollywoodland?  At least you'll get to see him shot in the skull.

Sounds good to me. I wonder how good the special effects will be? Maybe they should just really shoot him, to make sure it looks real.

"He doesn't impress me as an actor, an 'artist', or a person in general. He's just another prettyboy who would be doing gay porn if he didn't have friends in high places."
